I have just reecvd the above and after selecting the automatic instalation it located a hundred or so channels. The problem is that most of the channels have a '$' symbol besides them and there is no sound or picture. (I presume they are scrambled.)

Is there any solution to this problem?
You need to update it first look HERE scroll down and there's a tutorial with steps.
Thanks for the info, have scrolled down and found the tutorial on how to instal the firmware, but dont know what firmware to download onto the digivox xl

It's best if you do so you don't run into problems.
I downloaded the firmware onto UBS restored box to factory settings,and turned digivox off, plugged in ubs stick, turned on the box, went to menu, then ubs, then highlighted the program pressed ok: and nothing happened. Tried several times, but to no avail. Am a bit lost, any advice? There seem to be 2 new files on the ubs, CH data backup, and Code backup.

do factory reset first if you are in ireland here is the latest update for ire http://www.4shared.com/account/file/1139...104_090623.html d.load and save it to desktop, then put it on ur usb stick, when box is off put usb stick in ur box,turn box on and go down to usb you will see the file on it you d.loaded click on it it will ask do you want to restore data press yes/ok you will see the data going on your box then install channels if you are on n*l chose the letter n once your chanells come in press menu i think its system settings/or information you go into and press1004 put emu on and press set default key exit fix your time to summer time and that should do it.
