My wii came with 3.4E. Without giving it much thought, I followed a guide and installed the HBC, and downgraded to 3.2 thinking it was necessary to play backups. I have the backup launcher, USB loader and everything working.

So I wanted to do the same to my brother's wii which is also 3.4. Except
on his I only installed the HBC and then installed
IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad to remove the OCT 23 update and install wads.
I then installed the cIOS wad and the USB Loader works fine.
I haven't tried discs with the backup launcher. My question then is, does the backup launcher work on 3.4 as well and why were guides recommending to downgrade from 3.4 to 3.2?

Am I right in saying it was just to install starfall?

It may have been to.

You can use backup launcher on 3.4. You can use the backup launcher on 4.0 (I currently use it on 4.0)

Upgrading doesn't erase the HBC, upgrading doesn't remove your cIOS.

So many threads ask whether updating will brick their Wii like updating was specifically designed for bricking Wiis.

All this update phobia is beyond me.

I haven't updated from 3.2 yet. I just haven't felt the need. I'll do it sometime though.
