I wish to test how different the picture/sound quality would be when splitting long movies ( Lord of the rings)into 2 DVD-R or DVD-RW versus burning entire movie onto 1 disc.
Can someone please tell me which software I should use & if there is a guide.
Thank you,

you could just use DVD Shrink. reauthor and click the start/end button. set the end to halfway through the movie, and for the second disc, set the start to that spot.

While you're testing add an "Insert Disc 2" screen. How to's are here:

http://www.asdfz.com/guide/1and2/newbie.htm

It's simple once you round up the tools and d/l or make the screens. Adds class, too!

RWG, I used the tutorial from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/78458 couple of times - it's great! I had it bookmarked in my pc, but unfortunately the website is down. I don't remember all the steps to burn a dvd with no compresion into two disks. Do you maybe have the cocntent of the site saved or do you know where I can find summilar tutorial?
Thanks,

Dang, didn't know the site was down. I don't have the page saved in html either.

But to split a disk and put it on 2 dvds use Re-author in shrink. Drag the main movie over into the left window. Click on the icon that looks like two arrows pointing left and right. Determine the midpoint of your movie file, the chapter number. For a movie with 30 chapters for instance leave the start position alone and set the end position to chapter 15. Back this up and save or burn it. To get disc 2 reload the full movie in Shrink, select Re-author, drag the main movie into the left window. Click on the l&r arrows icon. This time set the beginning chapter to 16 and leave the end chapter setting alone. Back this up and burn it.

As for adding an 'insert disc 2...' screen I'll have to do some looking and/or try to remember how.

I will when I see it again. But now my DVD copying days are on hold. My computer listed below went south on me on Easter Sunday taking out 4 HDs, my burner and DVD-ROM. Mot sure about the mobo, cpu and memory. Parts are on order. I'll bookmark this thread and send you a PM when I get back up and copying.

Ok - did some digging.

Start IFOEdit

Load the very last IFO - the one that goes with the 'insert disc 2' VOB.

Look for:

VTS_PGCITI - double click here and open

VTS_PGC_1 - click on this line

Find this line in the lower window (towards the bottom)

[00000100] cell_1: still time (seconds, 0xff=infinite)

Double click & it should ask you for a value. 1-255 = that many seconds. I think 256 = infinite.

a little correct (in case somebody runs into the same problem I did)
instead of
[00000100] cell_1: still time (seconds, 0xff=infinite)
it should be
[00000110] cell_1: still time (seconds, 0xff=infinite)

and the value is 255.

Thanks again,
Ania

When I put the "Please Insert Disc 2..." on Schindler's List I set the value to 45. The screen stayed for 45 seconds and then the DVD stopped. You can adjust or set the time length the screen will display in seconds up to 255.
