I just tried running the install for 4.0 as seen on the sight wehackwii.com. I previously had my wii soft modded on 3.4e and everything ran well until last step of installing 4.0. It chucked back an error. I persume this error was due to the fact that i didnt check if there were any free slots. So i then rebooted the wii, only to find that the screen now remains black and doesnt boot into wii menu. Dvd ejects and accepts disks but my wii mote wont sync. Ive read around on the net, that this prob is quite common, but nobody has found a fix yet.

Do you have preloader or bootmii installed? if so, you should be able to boot into the HBC and undo whatever has caused your problem...what guide did you use? The only one I know of on there is the one I used and had no issues with...there shouldn't be any issue with 'not having a free slot' since things would just get overwritten, unless you have a bunch of cIOS that most people don't have...this is the one I'm referring to:
