I know the wii reads backup discs (dvd-r) at 3x but sometimes loading is slow or video's keep skipping. Is there currently any way to make it run backups at 6x without using a mod chip or will there ever be?

There could be in the future but at this time there isn't.

However if you use a USB Loader and USB HDD the read speed is actually faster then the normal 6X speed.

Thanks, I'm planning on doing that but I was just wondering so I'd have games on discs. I have USB loader installed so do I just put a .iso game onto the root of the USB Hard Drive then load it in the loader?

you need wbfs manager to format the drive to wbfs. then you can use the manager to load isos onto the drive.
