I just backed up my ps3 80gb model.When i went to do the backup process it warns you about copyrtight protected files cant be backed up what exactly is it not backed up.I had used 39gb of my hd on ps3 i was expecting the backup to come out at that size but it only came out at 29gb.Does this mean when i restore my ps3 i will be missing important data please advise

i know of some save files that cannot be copied because they are copy protected (EX: Killzone 2, Guitar Hero Metallica) so mabey some of your save files werent copied, and the Game Data of all your games probably wont be copied(EX MGS4 And Bioshock take 5GB to install on your system)

I have mgs4 and resi 5 and oblivion and a lot of others on my drive.
so when i restore my ps3 i wont have any game save data what good is that i would have to start all over again fron the begining. I read that when you back up your ps3 to change out the hd for a bigger 1
when you restore it it will be exactly the same how can it be if it wont save all the data.Will i loose any trophies i have gained for the games i have saved

Install Data And Save Data Are Different things, Save data saves your proccess in the game while install data is installed before the game and helps the game load. So as long as you dont mind waiting the 8 minutes in MSG4 to install it again, it shouldnt be a problem

all save data will be backed up as long as its not copy protected. and all trophies are in your PSN aacount so it wont erase

Thanks for that so i think maybe it is the install of resi 5 and mgs4 that is missing from my backup data.Can i just press triangle on the installs on these games and copy them manually

well looking from my install data in the Game Data Utility folder, it wont let me copy the data so i dont think you can

Ok thanks for the help well appreciated. It's annoying though cause bioshock and resi 5 takes ages to install mgs4 is not so bad
