Hi Everyone, I have WiiKey V1 with 1.9 updated and 3.4u. I am able to run Mario Kart but haven't updated for some time. Recently I tried running Punch-Out but it gives me a black screen and I don't hear the disc is spinning (the disc was loaded fine and I can see the disc title in the main screen, just the screen turns to black and never recover after I click start in the main screen).

Just wonder if I need to update to the latest firmware or I need to download grade to 3.2 in order to play the game. Just wonder what's the best route to move forward as I never loaded any home brew application so I am a bit inexperience with configuring the Wii. Thanks for your time and help. =)

if u dont want to run homebrew, then you are fine to let the disc update your Wii. Actually you can just update to 4.0u via the nintendo servers, and then follow the New and Improved Softmod guide like i did and you can play punchout and use homebrew.

Or you can just upgrade to 4.0u via wifi and you will be able to play punchout, and you can do the softmod stuff some other time if you want.

Version 4.0u lets you use SDHC cards and also allows you to move your VC Wii games to the SD card and play them from there.

My friend has two wii's, one with a D2C key, and the other with a D2 pro,and I had a virgin wii with no modchip at all. We upgraded all three to version 4.0u using wifi and the two modded wii's still played games just fine. On the virgin wii with no chip we followed the guide i mentioned above after updating it and it plays all the games fine as well.

Hi Denver621, thanks for your help. While waiting for response, I have installed use the Twilight Princess pack to install the Homebrew channel and DVDX (basically the package provided by the HackMii Installer Beta 2). After reading your suggestion, I have gone ahead update to 4.0u and am now able to play Punch-Out. Thank you very much!

But now the Homebrew channel can't load! Just wonder what do I need to do in order to fix it?

During install of HackMii Beta 2, I did not click to install BootMii because when I go into the menu I see that it said I have the option to uninstall BootMii with IOS option and I see that I have IOS249 installed so I did want to modify.

Then I also tried to use the Homebrew channel to load cIOS38 rev12 and selected to install with IOS36. The installation gives an error after successfully performing some patches and gives an error ret=1106 saying that the IOS was not installed.

Just wonder if these could be reason for the Homebrew can't load after updating to 4.0u?

Thank you very very much again for your help. =)

i recommend you follow the new and improved softmod guide step by step after updating to 4.0

dont skip any of the steps. you may need a newer version homebrew channell, and you need a cIOS to run the homebrew stuff.

Follow the guide and all should be fine.

Thanks Denver621, but I have read other post that the softmod may have conflict with WiiKey. I would like to keep my WiiKey, just wonder if there's anyway I can install Homebrew now with 4.0u and WiiKey without softmod?

I have removed the Homebrew channel from my Wii as it doesn't work anymore, but I wonder if I should still need to fix my Wii because I tried flashing it with cIOS38 but wasn't successful? Thanks again for your help. =)

I have a wii with a wiikey 1.9g it was FW 3.2u
I upgraded it to 4.0u via the nintendo servers and then followed the New and Improved Softmod guide and all came out fine. I also tried this on a virgin unmodded wii, and a wii with a d2c key installed. It worked fine on all three of the wii systems.

I recommend again that you simply follow the guide step by step. A wiikey is a drive chip and the softmod is a system hack. They should not, and in my cases did not interf with each other.

The twilight hack is an old hack and the version of the HBC you installed with it may be old and may not run on 4.0u FW

GO DO THE NEW AND IMPROVED SOFTMOD GUIDE. It will ensure you get the newest versions of the HBC, backup launcher, and cIOS's.

Thanks Denver621 again, I am looking into the guide now and let you know how everything goes. Thanks so much for your guidance.

Just wonder I was able to find some old games in the format of .wad file, how can I load it into the Wii in order to play them? Do I just save the file into the SD card and load it up some how? Thanks. =)

when you do the guide i been telling you about you will use an application called the wad manager to install several IOS and cIOS files. When you are done with the softmod, copy the game .wad file to the wad folder left over on your sd card. Use the Wadmanager program to install .wad files as a game channel. Just like when you use wii points to purchase only this way is free.

anytime you put a folder called app onto the sd card the homebrew manager looks there for applications to run.

if you store .wad files in a folder called wad on your sd card, you will see them as choices for installation when you load up the wadmanager via the homebrew channel.
