My PSP is 3.71 m33-2 and I just recently bought a new game. The game requires that I update the system software from 3.71 to 5.03, but when I try to do that the game gives me this message:
The disc could not be read. If you cancel, you may not be able to start the PSP system. Check that the disc is correctly inserted and then press the X button. (80010005)
What should I do? I tried messing around with the homebrew menu but nothing seems to work.
Thanks

Well you don?t want to update from the game disk, that?s for sure. Because that will be an original firmware update and "3.71 m33-2" is a custom firmware. So what I would recommend is if you have wifi, connect to the wifi and go to network update in the psp dashboard menu that will update you to the latest custom firmware. Or you can download the latest custom firmware and put it in the \psp\game\ folder on your memory card, then go to games in the psp dashboard and run the update.

Wow, thank you. That helped a lot. I just wish my brother would have known about this. He updated his game through the disk and now can't play home brew games.

Poop wait, I went to the network update thing and it started downloading. That all went fine. Then it told me the update was available on my memory card and I pressed install.
The PSP update was system software version 5.51. I continued and got this message:
The Memory Stick could not be read. If you cancel, you may not be able to start the PSP system. Check that the Memory Stick is correctly inserted, and then press the X button. (80010005)

5.51 is ofw not cfw. cfw updates will have the m33 with it. if you update to 5.51 you will lose the ability to run iso's and homebrew. update to cfw 5.0m33-6. just search this forum and place it in your game folder like he said.

Tried that, got the PSP folder and 150.PB (I think that's what it's called) onto my MP_ROOT folder but when I go to the Memory Stick game menu nothing new appears.
Did I miss a file or something?

they don't go into MP_ROOT folder. that folder is where you put some video(like some movies).
after you plug in your usb and open files of psp, you will see several folders to include iso, psp, mp_root, picture, etc. this refered to as the ROOT.
place the update in the GAME folder and your PB file(s) in the ROOT.
after that disconnect and your update should be in your game folder.
NOTE: make sure battery is at least 75% charged before updating.
hope this helps.

Ok, thanks for the reply.
I got the downloaded PSP folder inside the GAME folder (it's under the PSP folder in the ROOT right?), and the 150.PBP in the ROOT, but all I got was corrupt data in the game Memory Stick menu. Atleast I got something though, haha.
What else could I be doing wrong?

Maybe I put it in the wrong GAME folder? There's like 3: GAME, GAME150, and GAME371.

the file that you downloaded, did it come as an update only or did it come as psp file with other files in it? if the latter, then open the psp file (the one you downloaded) until you have just the update and place that in your game folder.
btw be sure and place 500 pbp file in the root. you will need this if your update doesn't have it.

Yeah, the one I downloaded was a PSP folder with a bunch of other folders in it.
Which update do you mean? There's M33Update4 under a GAME150 folder, and a M33UPDATE_352 under a GAME folder, also there's a MUX20 in that folder. Should I just move all of those into my GAME folder?
And yeah, I put the 150.PBP file in my ROOT.
Thanks for all the help.

o.k. let's clarify what you need. you do have cfw now, right? and you want to play the latest games, but you need to upgrade.(double checking so that i don't steer you wrong)
if the above is true, then do the following:
1. search and download update for 5.00 m33, 5.0m33-2, 5.0m33-4, and 5.0m33-6. ( i mention all of these so that nothing will missed and cause you probs)
2. place these in your GAME folder
3. search and download 500 pbp and place in ROOT.
4. do each update and you should be set.
hope this helps. pm me if not

Yes, I have 3.71 M33-4 firmware.
I used the "1 stop guide to etc, etc" on this forum. Would that count as the updates you were talking about? It said on the guide that all I had to do was download 2 files and follow the steps from the cfw I currently have.
Or should I just search the web for those updates and the 500 pbp?
Uh...how do you pm? I guess that's why they put "newbie" under your name...

yes just follow the guide. if followed correctly you will have cfw 5.0 m33-4 then get update for 5.0 m33-6. i think the guide has the pbp files needed. good luck.
within the forum move your cursor to person icon and it will allow you to send a message
