Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I have read just about EVERYTHING I can find about this subject and I cannot figure out what's going on.

-I have an XBOX 360 (obviously).
-I replaced the drive with a brand new Hitachi v78 and swapped firmware boards. All is well and it plays originals perfectly.
-I recently flashed the drive with iXtreme 1.51 (because it is the newest for Hitachi drives). Still plays originals perfectly.

When I burn:
-I am using ABGX360 to verify and stealth my games.
-Then I use ImgBurn to burn the games
-Using Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL's made in Singapore (supposedly).

When I put the newly burned disc into my Xbox 360 it reads the game fine and lets me play for a few minutes (varying from 2 minutes to 15 minutes depending on exactly how I burned it) and then I get an "Unreadable Disc/Please Clean" error.

-I have tried using "CloneCD" and "Cookies XBOX 360 Game Burner".
-I am using a SONY DVD RW DW-D22A /w latest BS0Y6 firmware to burn the games.
-I have tried various speeds from 1x-8x.
-ABGX360 says the .iso is good and fixes what isn't good.
-I verify after burning when using ImgBurn and the verification is good.

I am completely lost here and getting ready to pull out my hair. I have read and tried everything I can. The only thing I can imagine is that my DVD Burner is old? It seems to do better when I burn at 4x speed (meaning it lets me get a few minutes further into the game before I get "Unreadable Error").

I have coastered 16... I repeat, SIXTEEN discs. Every disc I tried something different with (ie- burn speed, burning program, tried uninstalling and reinstalling ABGX and ImgBurn)

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Thanks Afterdawn!

more than likely your problem is the sony's. hitachi drives are known to be picky with what disks they will read. i couldnt get my hitachi to play backups regularly till i upgraded to verbatims. might try that.

Yes, as my post says I am using Verbatim 2.4x MiS's.
I am using a Sony burner (which is actually a rebranded Lite-On 1633s)

Thanks though.

I have often found hitachi's need a Pot calibration to read backups efficiently

Do you think that I should need to increase power to the laser on a brand new drive?

I feel that the issue is with the burning process since the disc will be read, then after a few minutes I get an "Unreadable" error. On some of the DVD's I burned, after I get an "unreadable" error when I go to restart the game it will either only load the intro then get "unreadable", or not even load at all and get "unreadable"

does it always do it in the exact same spot each time?
that would definite mean problems in the burnt disc
or does it do it in different areas of the game possibly indicating a overheat of the drive or a spindle motor going bad?

well if the drive is weak and there is a slight problem in the disc that would normally on a properly functioning drive just continue on a poor drive it would kick out in the same place and getting the drive working better would solve this. try it in another xbox if you can if it makes it past then probably its the drive if kicks out in same place its the burn

Well, that brings up something I was pondering about.
I wondered how distributors got a hold of these drives that were made for Microsoft's XBOX 360. It was purchased from WWW.THUMBMONKEY.COM (mods if I'm not allowed to post that website please remove and correct me). All I know is that they claim it to be new. As far as the validity of their statements go, I'm not sure.

Which brings us to a POT tweak.
Perhaps I'll try this out. It only sucks that I paid around $30 for a drive and have to POT tweak it so I can read backups. It's just peculiar to me how it could read the DVD fine, until a certain point and then on some of the coasters I made it won't even recognize the DVD as being in the drive.

gah, I have 2 other XBOX's here but neither of them are flashed, and I just sold my longer SATA cable with a computer last night. (I forgot to remove it -stupid-).

Well, I just checked the other XBOX 360 (that I own) and it has a BenQ drive. I can only assume that I couldn't take the FW Board from the Hitachi (that has been flashed with iXtreme) and put it in the BenQ and even have it work at all, right? Since the FW board has flashed firmware made for the Hitachi drive...

Yeah, I wouldn't imagine it would/could work either way.

Ok so I'm looking at a POT tweak. If anyone else has some comments to make please do. I'm broke and I can't find my multimeter ever since I moved, which means I have to go buy one. So I'd like to be sure this is a good idea and not a waste of money.

No problem uturn68...
If I can find a cheap multimeter with a 2000ohm setting I'll pick it up and clean the lens when I do the Potentiometer tweak.

Do you guys think that something as cheap as these would suffice? They both seem to have a 2000 ohm setting.

Ok sounds good, I'll try to have one ordered by the end of the week.
I will be out of town until Monday, but as soon as I get the multimeter I'll let you guys know how the Pot tweak goes and if it helps.

Ok, I am THOROUGHLY frustrated now.

I received my Multimeter in the mail today so I took the 360 back apart. My first reading from the DVD Potentiometer (while multimeter was set at 20k Ohm) was 4.58 ... That seems like pretty high resistance. So I cranked the resistance down to about 3.5 and tried playing a backup of Gears of War 2. The games played for a little, then did the same exact thing, I didn't even get any further. So I opened the dvd drive up again and set the potentiometer resistance down to 3.00 ... I then tried to play Gears of War 2 again and it did the same thing (I also tried the other 9 copies of it with similar results). So I was like CRAP! ...
I then decide to try playing my backup of Fallout 3. And it was working flawlessly! I played until I got out of the Vault, and then I turned the XBOX off and did some other stuff. When I came back I started Fallout 3 back up and it still worked perfectly! So I was playing for a couple hours without a single flaw. Then out of no where BLAM! "Dirty Disc Error"...

Guys... Is there ANY advice out there for me?

Put stock firmware back on your Hitachi and flash the BenQ Xbox 360.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Usually I'd take a comment like this as someone being a D-Bag. But in this case I believe you are being as truthful as possible. From what people say Hitachi's are emotional about what they play. Thanks for trying to help guys!

I just want everyone to know that I removed the iXtreme flash from my Hitachi XBOX and flashed my BenQ to 1.6 ... The BenQ is working Flawlessly! The only issue I have now is that I have about 11 copies of Gear of War 2 lol !

Thank for the help guys! I don't know what the deal with Hitachi's is but I'll never flash one again.

Unfortunately it might not be that it is a Hitachi. I am having the same problem with a Liteon drive and I do not care to be changing the drive. Oh well. Maybe the new firmware might help...

A Pot tweak didn't work for me, I spent a long time going up and down with the resistance, none worked. It did HELP a little, but still didn't play the games past a few minutes. With this BenQ I've beaten GoW:2, played Fable 2 for hours, Left 4 Dead for a couple of hours, and played through the CoD:WaW campaign again, with no errors. I bought the Hitachi "New" from ThumbMonkey.com but based on another member's comment, I'm not too sure how "new" it really could be.
