I've "inherited" a faulty 360 that won't read games. It will play audio CD's and DVD movies perefcly find
I've cleaned the lens - still won't read games, but reads movies
I've replaced the lens - still won't reag game, but reads movies
Is it possible that the drive was badly flashed before? Is there any scenario where a drive can be flashed badly, but will still play DVD's in an XBOX?
Don't want to go an buy a replacement drive only to flash it and find it does the same thing.
It sounds as if is missing the drive Key, so yes seems to be a bad flash, before you go and buy a new drive, make sure you are able to extract the drive Key, without it there nothing you can do to play games again!!
a 360 with a drive without its key, is nothing more than a DVD player.
The only way to know for sure is to try an original game. The signal strength is different for games vs. movies/music. Also, you can swap lasers with a Lite On drive, if you have access to one, to test if the Benq laser is bad.
I've actually been able to connect the drive up to my PC and extract the bios, put the Iextreme 1.6 on it and flash it back to the drive using iPrep. It all went through smoothly but when I put it all back together it makes no difference. It still wont read an original game.
If the drive had a bad flash or missing key, would I still be able to flash it with iPrep? It didn't give me any kind of errors.
Don't want to go and spend another £13 for a replacement benq drive if it's only going to give me the same problem.
