One of these days I will get it right. I was just successful in copy a pre-authored disk to my hard drive using Skrink 3.1 and the used DVD decripter to burn. Tried to repeat everything and I am doing something wrong. I used Shrink 3.1 and assigned the file to my hard drive C:monsters, which it did. There are 4.35 gigs in the file. i THEN GO TO dvd Decripter and change the mode to write. It asks for the source file. I click of the file icon>C:> monsters and no file shows up in the box to Open. I used the drop down file menu and every choice listed doesn't work. I know all the files are there because when I use explorer they are all listed. What's going on?

After ripping with Shrink, you can use Nero to burn it.

I appreciate the direction but it has not solved the problem. I have read ALL the guides and followed the directions, but still no readable disk. I have wasted probably 20 disks so I would really apppreciate some specific help. This is the problem: I used shrink sucessfully, but when it come to the buring with Nero it says "burn not sucessful and incomplete, but file saved to hard drive". When I go to DVD decripter>mode>iso>write>please select a file>double click>open>the file appears but nothing is in the box to open. At the bottom of the box is "All supported files". When I switch to all files everything is there but I can't open more than one file which I don't thinK is right. Please help. I am usings windows XP, Good disks, and the new Pioneer RW drive. I am able to write sucessfully to a RW disk, but interesting when I use the RW disk as the source the disk is not recognized by DVD decripter, but will play in the drive.

you have to have shrink create a iso file to burn with decrypter. When you have shrink ready to go when it comes to the time, click backup, where it says hard disk folder you hit the dropdown and click write to iso image, down below browse, is a option that says launch decrypter to burn image. That should get you to be able to write with decrypter.I dont know whats wrong with your nero unless maybe you have roxio?
if so, put a stake in roxio's heart, roxio kills nero.
good luck
jim

When I hit baqckup in Shrink I am not given the option to save the image in ISO in a drop down menu.It is a window which has 3 options:Target device, DVD region and backup options which do not let me choose iso. Roxio is not on my machine

Something brand new has been released, it's called DVD-RW discs. No reason to waste 20 discs -

In DVD Shrink, "Backup" under ?Target Device? go to ?Select target device? once there, select ?ISO Disc Image?.

and I ask again, What are "good discs" ?

I went to shrink> backup> target device. There is no option in that window to choose iso format. Under Target device there is:Burning with Nero is disabled in your preferences. Select target folder for DVD output files, a Browse square, and a check box for Create Video_TS and Audio_TS subfolders. Where in the window is the option to choose image iso? There is no hard disc pull down menu. Was use RW disks meant to be humour? I don't know the definition of "good" discs but I know out of wasting 20 1 of them should have worked if I did it right, which I have with these discs in the past.

We just wanted to know what brand your dvdr's are,and hopefully we can or, better yet scubapete could tell you if they are good or not.The discs of choice around here are ritek go4 or verbatim, the rest are just pretenders.Glad you got it figured out.

Anyone who wastes 20 discs shouldn't complain when they could have used RW media was the point I was making.

As far as "Good discs" that was your term in your post. using poor media causes a ton of problems, when doing DVD Video backups, only the best media can be solidly be relied upon.

Perhaps you are using an outdated DVD Shrink version. That can be the only reason, I suggest that you update to 3.1.7. - Point of FACT the choice is there !

I'm only guessing here because you don't appear to like to provide any information about what you have or what you have done - i.e. I have read all the guides (I haven't read ALL the guides there must be 20 or 30.)

I'm not being smart - you aren't being helpful -

Memorex as an example, has posted figures as high as 50% coasters, not what I would call an impressive record -

1. Cheap media skips, freezes, fuzzes, pixelats, refuses to be recognized, partially jams and of course, our good old standby, either doesn?t burn or doesn?t play at all :-(

Cheap media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely Big-th way !

2. A top grade media is needed for DVD reproduction !
Ritek G04's or Verbatim are what we?re looking for OR any media boasting ?Advanced AZO Metal Dye?, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are a bit ?pricey? they are acceptable.

Prices online from Meritline.com have gotten Ritek G04 to down around a dollar a disc -
Question - If you make coasters out of 3 cheap discs and good copies from 3 Verbatim discs or 3 Ritek G04 discs - which ones then are too expensive ?

Remember, Memorex, Fuji, TDK, Orange Pack and others are good for your MP3 music, picture archives, Spread sheets, Data and your text backups and archives, they just don?t work well for DVD backups.

murdog, you really need a sense of humor, that was YOUR quote, since posting that, you were asked 4 different times what your media was - since you didn't answer we assumed it was "Secret" -

We have a life, it was here helping you - pretty dumb of us wasn't it ?

Yes you thanked us.

We just wondered if you got a sucessful burn -

but tell ya what, You keep that a secret along with your "Good discs" cause Jim and I have moved on AND we're getting a life.

Perhaps you'll not have questions in the future -

Remember, those that helped you, don't have a life - Ya don't want anything from those such as us -

Bye now,

SP,

I have read many of your posts and have found them quite useful.

This thread has been amusing. Someone who is unable to specify what type of discs they are using after being specifically asked repeteadly - odd.

I second those hmmmmmmmm's!

At any rate, I am glad you will continue to respond to posts requesting help.
***

Murderdog,

Are you able to grasp that problems burning discs are often related to the specific brand of discs (also called media) that you use?

This is why ScubaPete asked you many times what discs you were using. "Good discs" isn't too specific.

The blatent insolence and rudeness won't gain you much support! (Realize that I am exagerating.)
