Asked around, havent got a clear answer.

For the USB loader do I need a disc drive installed? Mine broke, I took it out and sold it. I was planning on buying a new one but if I can use USB loader without I would rather do that, I have installed the loader and no matter what I do all I get is a black screen when I go to play a game.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF YOU NEED THE DISC DRIVE?
ARE WII DISC DRIVE INTERCHANGEABLE? I HAD A DMS DRIVE, WILL I HAVE TO BUY THE SAME DRIVE BECAUSE I HAVENT FOUND ONE ON EBAY.

THANK YOU

If I'm not mistaken you don't need it at all for just running games from USB Loader. You will have to use your pc to rip games to it somehow if possible, or just download the USB Loader converted games.

You can buy the Wii disc drives, modded and un-modded. Most Mod shops online sell them. You will need a special screwdriver to take your Wii apart and put the drive in. Google a modchip for wii, and you will find the drives for sale.

I bought a drive that already modded and put it in my Wii. I still have the original drive, but I am not selling it. I am keeping it for a backup.

I am not to sure, but I think I read that you can load your games somehow with a PC. You may have to have a LG drive that reads Wii disc.

taking apart the wii is not a problem, allready did that. Also had it modded with a d2pro9 chip.
I also have a way of getting the games onto usb. I dont have a problem with any of that.
If I dont need the drive, why am I getting a black screen when I try to play a game through the usb loader?
I have tried different setiings, force ntsc, autopatch, different things. I have reinstalled everything again and again. Nothing seems to work.
I am allmost to the point that I am certain you need a drive for the loader even if you do not use it.

Has anyone ever tried it without the drive?

I seem to recall a post saying that you still need the drive present even if you're using the USB loader... but of course, now I can't find it. It makes sense that you would still need it in a way though.
