I have been searching and searching and apparently I just don't know what to search for...

That being said, here is my situation:

Have been trying furiously to get my Wii to support a USB Loader and was using the guide Located here.

When I got to Step 4, I would continually get the -1 error. Searches suggested to try a different SD card which I did, at which point I semi-bricked the Wii "System files are corrupted...".

My searches have led me to believe it's not too bad because I have Preloader and Homebrew channel loaded and accessible but I have no idea where to go from here as my searches have come up with nothing.

I am at the point to where I'm semi-glad I'm in Korea and I can probably just take it to the local electronic market and find somebody there to fix it and get what I want to work but I'd like to see if I can get it myself first.

Error -1 usually means it can't find the .wad file, if you are trying SD installation make sure you have a copy of the .wad file on your SD card, or for an easier route select network installation and use your wifi to download the file to your Wii.

So are you sure you put the .wad in the correct folder? It should be in the ROOT of your SD card: Lets say x is your Sd card

X: Wad <--just name it wad (folder) <--put your wads there

FYI: Smart that you installed Preloader. You can retry it again from homebrew.

1) Backup Launcher is old. Neogamma is new http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=158884
1A) to get the Neogamma Channel http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=165485
2) Superdump (Requires homebrew) dump your game in 30 minutes. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/780900
3) Make your Wii skip updates! Use preloader 0.29 and enable skip updates. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Preloader
4) Scared of Bricking your Wii? Make an NAND backup! Install BootMii http://bootmii.org/install/

I was getting the -1 error while attempting a network install...

It would be downloading and get to about #08 or #09 on cIOS36_rev10 when it would -1 on me. When it semi-bricked my console it got to #09...

This is what I get for trying to do something I'm not fully understanding and haven't done enough research on before hand. I am still getting the -1 when trying to network install different IOS's (I've tried 36_rev 10, 38_rev 12, and 38 rev 12b). I am thinking I screwed some of the early steps up which may be where my problems are coming from but at this point I'm lost. I will keep trying...and thanks for the reply.
