wii not recognising hdd after install mplayer

hey people. hopefully one of you handsome people will be abale to help me out

i have 4.0e wii with d2pro and softmodded.

ive been using usb loader gx for playing backups direct from my external hdd drive....

i wanted to play videos from my hdd drive so i read up about mplayer, the mplayer site said i needed to install usb2 so i downloaded the file it gave me and installed via homebrew channel but now mplayer or usb loader gx will not recognise the hdd.

any ideas?

which usb port do you have it plugged into? have you tried switching it?

as a general rule i have it in the top port but now its not workin in either
