I'm now venturing out there to see how far you can push the Wii. Trying to catch up to what has happened so I will be ready for the next big thing. Trouble is I'm running into a lot of old content.
Like I have seen BootMii will not protect against a bad WAD Banner Brick. But I also read on that was because BootMii was installed as a cIOS.
I have been fortunate to be able to install it as the preferred option as a Boot2.
Currently today:
What do I need to still be cautious about?
How do I protect myself from that?

BootMii as boot2 will protect agenst most bricking, as long as you don't brick boot2. it also requiers a gamecube controler.

No, it dosn't require the gamecube controller. You can navigate around the BootMii using the Wii's "power, reset and eject" buttons.

I have tried that multiple times without success. I have read that you are supposed to be able to use those buttons, but they dont work. At least not on my two systems, or the two others i have softmodded.
If you touch reset when bootmii is loaded up it resets the sytem. If you push power it turns the wii off. How can those button be used in the bootmii menu if they reset or turn off the sytem when pressed? Same goes for eject. If you touch it, you can hear the wii try to eject the disc.
If anyone has acually gotten this to work please let me know how as I have tried many times, and read many a post, and the only thing that works is the GC controllers for me.

I just got the power button to make the menu choices scroll, but i still cant select one of them. If I hit eject it still tries to eject the disc, and reset definitly resets the system.
any ideas? I would like to know in case i see anyone else having issues that may need help.
Hey Zork18 - did this work for you? what did you use to select the options with? Which button specifically??

(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

I think it depends on the system. I have it installed as Boot2 and can not use the buttons. I have to use a Gamecube Controller.

Confermed, I have the boot2, not the IOS. For IOS's you do need the controller.
Thanks for reminding me.

Hum, quite odd. Oh well, I always try it without a controller first and so far I have been quite lucky. No problems yet. :knocks on wood:

Aside for using you wiis front buttons, If you don't have a gamecube controller and the front buttons don't work, do not be frightened all you have to do is take out your sd card and boot your wii up normally...so if you can install bootmii as boot2, and not get any install problems you have protected your wii from most bricking, its a good idea. if i could only take my own advice I'd not have a bricked wii .
