I have a Hitach 79fl I had 1.4 ixtreme in. I attempted to do an update. I re-flashed the drive to the original firmware just fine. I used Jungleflasher v0.1.51 Beta to create a new firmware with the 1.51 ixtreme. I then used 360 Firmware Toolbox 4.8 to start flashing. About 1/3rd of the way in there, my computer suddenly lagged out and the mouse would only respond for half a second to a second, once every 20 seconds or so. An error popped up saying error: Flash1. It repeated a few times, and then it listed a block it could not flash. Due to the crash of my computer, the flash failed. I need to find a way to force a fresh firmware into my drive, otherwise I'm dead in the water. I have an original game in the drive that won't eject when the eject button is pressed (obviously as there is an incomplete firmware on the drive now). If I plug the drive back into the xbox, I get a single flashing red light on the lower right of the circle. Is it done for?

I'm afraid it is bricked.

Only thing left to do would be desolder the TSOP chip off of the PCB board and re-flash it with an external programmer.

As long as you have the DVDkey you are fine. I suggest purchasing a BenQ and flashing your DVDkey to the drive. BenQs support bad flash recovery.

I've never tried flashing a new, different drive into an old drive. Is it difficult? Or is it basically the same as all of the other firmware updates? Throw the BenQ in, get the BenQ firmware updates, and tell it that the original firmware is my old hitachi firmware, and the program does the rest?

In Jungle Flasher it is pretty easy.

Load original Hitachi firmware into source.
Load ix1.6 for BenQ into target.
Click spoof source to target.
Go to MTKFlash tab and get BenQ in vendor mode.
Write firmware.

Sweet. Now I just need to find a good place to get a BenQ drive. Any recommended sources? I'm assuming Ebay? Any particular model BenQ that's better than another?

Yeah, you can get them brand new on ebay for a good price.
