I did not read through the above post but if you installed bootmii as an IOS make sure you have preloader installed otherwise when you brick you will be uanable to load bootmii to reflash the nand. Preloader is needed if you install bootmii as an IOS. Not to make the nand backup but to help load bootmii in the event of a system brick.
You can find a generic GC Controller used at gamestop, or via ebay, or you can pick up a 25.00 one at a best buy. They will be aftermarket but they should work fine. You might even find a real GC one used at Gamestop. I've seen em for around $10.00
Hey dude,
Havent installed yet because since I dont have a GC controller yet, I'm unable to do the nand backup :/

if bootmii can be installed as boot2 then it creates a folder on your SD card after installation that causes bootmii to load up each time the wii is turned on with the SD card inserted (must be the SD that contains the Bootmii folder for Bootmii to load)
This was if you Wii bricks, meaning you cant get the wii system menu to load (black or green screen), then you would insert your SD card and allow bootmii to load. Then you can restore from a previous nand backup.
If you install bootmii as an IOS, you cannot load up bootmii this way. You have to load it through the Home brew channel, which may not be possible if you cant get the system menu to load. Fat lot of good a nand backup will do you if you cant get bootmii to load so you can make use of it. (I been reading Harry Potter, can you tell?)
In order to make use of your nand backup in the event you brick, and if you are forced to install bootmii as an IOS, you need to install preloader.
Once installed preloader can be executed by turning on the wii and holding down the reset button. When preloader boots, you can then run the HBC, and once that loads you can exit out and choose to run bootmii. Once bootmii is running you can restore your nand.
The thing that makes installing bootmii as boot2 more preferable is that it loads up before the system menu loads so you can always restore the nand regadless of what gets bricked.
All that without the need to mess with preloader or the need to rely on HBC loading in order to finally get bootmii up and running.

@joekool84, Boot mii as boot2 should be fine, because there is realy only 2 things you could do to screw up your wii after you install bootmii as boot2, that is eather installing a boot2 wad over bootmii (if you do this you should imediatly reinstall bootmii as boot2) or messing with boot1 (even if nintendo messed with boot1 it would brick a wii) so keep away from boot 2 wads and stuff.
the only reson why you couldn't get bootmii as boot2 is if your wii has the newer boot1, wich fixis the boot2 exploit. but i think it was kindof dumb for nintendo to make boot1 totaly unchangible, even they can't do anything with it, and boot0 is on rom (read only memory) so you can't cahange that eather.
BTW: if you installed bootmii as boot2, will that interfer with preloader? I don't think so because preloader becomes part of the system menu (1 step after boot2). but it sounds useless unless you deleat the bootmii files or somthing.

It is still recommended to backup your NAND even if you can only install it as an IOS. The reason being is if you brick completely (even Preloader can not recover the system) there are some out there that have unsoldered the NAND and used a programmer to write the NAND backup back to the NAND and recovered the system.
As for Preloader being pointless if you have Bootmii as Boot2 well Preloader is not only for recovering bricks. It also has system hacks that you can use. So it isn't as pointless as you would think.

Hey dudes,
Thank you all for the replies. I want to make a NAND backup, but since my bootmii can only be installed as IOS I need a game cube control to use it but I dont have any. Since it is only for this buying a remote from an old console is... boring.
Can someone knows any version of bootmii that work with the power and reset buttons and let me make a nand backup?
Or any other solution?
Thanks

Don't you think if there was another way we would let you know. Be bored and buy a GameCube controller. You can also use a GameCube controller for Virtual Console games so it isn't like it would be a total waist of money.

it is a good idea to get one anyway if ur into modding. There are a few Modchips out that use the GC Controller to navigate the flash utilities and such like the wiikey. Could be it will be used again for a softmod program in the future.
Plus like mentioned above they work great for the few VC like NES Super Mario World that dont work with the wiimote and require a classic controller.
You can pick up a used original GC controller for 9.99 at Gamestop. You can get a brand new aftermarket one from Gamestop for 14.99
might do even better searching on ebay or craigslist

Hey dudes,
Yes, I know I can use gamecube control to play some virtual console games.. but I have a classic control for it.
Anyway, I'll search for some cheap gamecube control.
Thanks again

Hello peepz! :-)
Yes...I'm a nooby...and sorry for being a pain!
I updated my Wii from 3.2E to 4.1 using the OFFLINE TECHNIQUE GUIDE AT:
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=144835?
I have a backup iso for WiiMarioKart(PAL) which, I burned on a Tesco DVD-RW disc using imgburn.
Everytime I launch NeoGamme to load game I get DVD 972 error!
I then tried to load the same iso from a formatted usb and tried loading it using usb loader.....when I click play it just goes to the white safety screeen about using the strap round your wrist....and it just stays there. Wii-mote does not respond and the game doesn't load!
I did some research and I heard that cIOS36_rev10-installer might be buggy?....is this the problem?

Hi all,
I have a Wii Limited Edition with 4.1e, my question is can i use the guide for 4.1 ? or do u guys advise to update the console firmware and use the newest one for 4.2 ?
I suppose that firmare 4.1 includes the ones with letters like 4.1e or 4.1u, its minor updates but they still to belong to 4.1, is this right ?
Thks for your time
Sorry my english not my mother language, hope u all understand what i mean :)

No this is not right. The letter after the firmware is region codes.
U = North America
E = Europe
J = Japan
K = Korean
So every firmware will have those letters.
It doesn't really matter if you stay at 4.1 firmware or 4.2 firmware. One doesn't out benefit the other.

I would update to 4.2 firmware then follow the 4.2 firmware softmod guide in my sig.
After you get that done follow the CFG USB Loader guide in my sig if you want to load games from a USB Device.
