I am looking to replace my benq laser with a new one and while I was looking on ebay I noticed that most of the cheaper ones are located in hong kong. Are these ok to buy or should I only get some from the US? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I would just go with the seller in the US. You will get it a lot quicker.

Make sure it is the HOP 141-B Laser.

Ebay HOP 141 B BenQ laser

I hope someone can help me out. I desoldered the contact point and replaced the laser( I bought the one in the link). Now when I try to play a game (real or back up) it says reading for like 15 seconds and then just goes to Play dvd. Did I do something wrong? Any advice would be appreciated. Also when the laser is trying to read the disc it is very loud and it sounds like it is working very hard. Thanks again for the help.

If by rail adjustment screws you mean that white piece of plastic that holds it to the bar that has the grooves(sorry I'm not good at explaining it) in it then yes. Is there a way to get it back into proper position? I have the old laser but that is starting to die. It keeps giving me the disc is dirty error so I decided to try to replace it last night. I'm going to fiddle around with it after work and i'll report back if I made any progress. Thanks for the help.

Yeah that is exactly what I did but when I test it out the laser is loud and very noisy and then only goes to play dvd. Is there a way to calibrate it so it will line up correctly?

no that white peice of plastic wont harm it i would check its not the drive motor by running the drive with the top cover off this is quite tricky have a disc in position and spin it up you will see the laser through the disc providing its a light colour (the disc will need holding in position and i do this by taking out the plastic support in the top cover which the magnet attaches to)watch carfully the action of the laser if it moves towards the outer edge in a non smooth motion the motor is possably wack also if
