Hey guys,

I managed to get a copy of the Disaster Day of Crisis game, the PAL version, and converted it to be NTSC-U region for my US Wii. I was able to play it flawlessly with my Wii because I have this setup:

Wii 3.2U
Wiikey 1.9s

I brickblocked the game as well to avoid the update. The problem is, I am basically halfway through the game and when it loads the stage I am currently on, a black screen shows up that says "Wii cannot read disk, refer to Manual etc."

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I suspect it is a bad burn but everything worked fine up to that point. Please give me advice and/or suggestions on how to fix the problem. I would appreciate any help because I really want to continue on with the game.

I've had that happen to me on my backed up "No More Heroes" game. It's probably just a bad disc, or the burn did not go well. With my problem, I would just take out the disc, do the original "blow in the Nintendo trick" to move dust, wipe the disc with a clean soft cloth and put it in and it would resume playing then.

But, if you disc is all scratched up, or you burned it too fast (they should be created at 2x-4x speeds) then it could just be bad. And if you made the backup from some torrent, then the guy who posted it might have ripped it too fast or some of the data got corrupted during download.

If you still have the burned .iso, I would try to reburn it slowly on a good DVD-R disc.

Have you looked into USB Loader GX? Forget discs all-together... go buy a 500GB extra portable hard drive and you can copy iso's to it using WBFS Manager on your Windows machine. Takes about 2 minutes to copy a 4.7gb iso image to your WBFS hard drive and the images are much smaller so you can squeeze way more games onto it. Search the forum - there is all kinds of info about usb loaders in here.

Hey thanks for your response. I always burn the backups at 2X speed and the disks I used always worked for I use Verbatim disks. It is weird that it would just say the disk can't be recognized during the middle of the game. I will try to take it out when it happens and re-insert it and see what happens then. If that fails, I will probably re-burn it. Do you have any suggestions just in case that fails as well after I re-burn the backup?

If it didn't play at all, I'd say you have bigger problems. But the fact that you can play half way through the game and then have it mess up sounds like a problem with the disc you're using, or the particular image you burned.

Almost positive it is a bad disc (scratched, bad original iso, or bad burn). If you still have the .iso you used to burn onto the disc, I'd try to reburn it again. If it still freezes, I would try to get a new .iso from a different source.

I don't know you're full setup either, but if you're not using cIOS38rev13 (the original not B), you might want to look into that too. The latest official firmware with softmodded cIOS38rev13(a) will play just about anything and everything. Keep in mind though that not all homebrew apps are compatible, but most are. Neogamma disc loader works and so does USB Loader GX.

As long as you have homebrew loaded now, you can safely upgrade to 4.1 firmware using this guide here

So I tried to re-burn the backup and the same problem persists. I am now guessing that the iso is bad because something must have been corrupted for the middle of the game not to work. Hopefully if I get a new iso, it will fix the problem. Any other suggestions?

So I got a new ISO from a different source and burnt the backup and it still shows the Wii cannot read disk, refer to Manual etc. when I get to the middle part of the game. Everything would load up, but once I got to a certain stage, the sign would show up.

I am running this game through the Homebrew Channel and using the last Gecko OS. I can run the game through the Disk Channel as well and everything was working fine, until that certain part in the game. I'm usually able to get these problems to work, but for this one, I have no idea what is going on.

I tried to research this online but it seems no one has tried to play it on a NTSC-U Wii or they haven't gotten to the part where it freezes.

Can someone please help me with this problem? Any suggestions/advice? Thanks in advance.
