I was happily using an LG drive to burn games and play them on my wii. THe wii has a modchip installed however the LG Drive has packed in so i now need to look at other options. is there a lest of new LG drives that i can purches that allows me to burn games or an alternate option?
Why do you need an LG drive to burn games? use any DVD burning drive to burn wii games, the only time you need a certain LG one is for ripping and even that now can be gotten around.
Just use good discs, preferably DVD-R verbatim or some other decent brand. Stay away from +R and any +/- RW discs. Yes, some people have success with them, but lots don't and it can be very hit or miss.
Also, make sure you are burning copies slowly... 2x or 4x is optimal.
As mentioned above, you can use any dvd burner to copy an .iso image to DVD. As for software, Nero should work fine. I use ImageBurn, which is free and works great.
Ever since buying my WD passport 500gb hard drive and installing USB Loader GX though, I don't use discs anymore - waste of time and money. In fact, I took all my backups and ripped them to the hard drive. There is not one game I can't play this way (well except for Wii sports resort, but that's beause I don't have the wii motion plus yet. it is in the mail though!)
Thanks for the replys. yes i have tried several types of media and have been burning at a low speed but ill try again. I am really interested in the USB Loader GX. do yo uhave full info and a download? can this run from a PC harddrive or do you have to re-format?
As far as hard drives go, there is a compatability list, but I haven't run across any that do not work. My latest is a 500gb western digital passport (mini with no external power) and it works great. You might have more issues with larger drives (1tb) but some are working. Do you need 1tb for wii games... probably not, but in the long term, maybe.
You want to format a hard drive as FAT32 first (use a tool like Format32.exe - don't use Windows to do this). Partition it it you want. I made 2 partitions... 1 was 350gb, the rest was like 117gb or so. Then use WBFS manager on your Winows pc and format the drive (either the entire hard drive) or just one partition to the Wii format. On mine, i formatted the 350Gb part to Wii format and left the other partion Fat32.
I only did that because you can still use the fat32 portion for movies, pics, and use it for storing USB Loader disc images, covers etc. Partition your drive however you like though. NTFS will NOT be read by the Wii
