A PS3 model#CECHE01 with 2.80 firmware that freezes during gameplay/onlineplay only with COD5. This game will freeze while playing, at random, after about 5-15 minutes after booting. Will keep playing the opening video (if you dont push the start button) no problem. Right now it freezes just after the beginning where the Japanese are taken out and the player is rescued from torture. It will stop with video still, and the audio repeats 3-4 seconds. "They're going to pay for what they've done... They're going to pay for what they've done... They're going to pay for what...ETC". THis could stay like this forever. But when I take the disc out the screen and audio stay the same for another 15 seconds and the PS3 restarts.
I have tried another COD5 disc, so I know its not an issue with the disc. I have tried MGS4 and it works no problem. Cleaned the lens with alcohol. Cleaned the laser movement gear and added more grease. Removed the heat sinks, added more thermal compound. Formatted the harddisc, partitioned the hard disc, formatted again. It will play Bluray no problem, DVDs no problem, MP4 on hard disc no problem. MGS4 no problem. Havent tried with other games, so i cant say. Only 2 copies of COD5 and MGS4.
By the way, this PS3 has original 80 GB harddrive (i think its original), smart card reader, 4 usb plugs, PS2 emulator (software), and a shitty old heat sink with the fan screwed into it like a big colon enhaust.
Please help. I also tried removing the smart card reader and playing with the lid off. NO luck.
I am wondering if it is a firmware problem that conflicts with this game alone.
Please, someone help. I am usually pretty good with these consoles, so someone with experience please help me! Or anyone with this same issue, please give me some info on how it happened to you. Or anyone else can just tell me everything will be alright. thx
