A couple of weeks ago I softmodded my Wii (PAL 4.0u) and everything was working fine (thanks to the elaborate guide from another thread here. Thanks again!). However, just now it stopped reading dvd-r discs while regular, original discs still work fine. Also, NeoGamma R6 appears to take a lot longer to load.
I found topics similar to mine, but they mostly related to WiiKey; one topic had someone saying you should open up the Wii and adjust the laser-strength with a POT. I'm not at all into that - is there another reason why my Wii could have stopped reading dvd-r ? Is it advisable to go back to a backed up NAND ? I do have that.
Last question: if my drive stops reading backups completely, is it still possible to attach a USB harddrive and play from that, using the USB launcher?
I just noticed something else that's odd: When I start the NeoGamma R6 loader, my WiiMote shuts down. Only after I turn it back on, NeoGamma will start. Attempting to start a game results in a time-out or a DVD-error (1182) (Hard to see, it's displayed over other text). If I then go to the main menu and restart NeoGamma, the screen remains black until I reset the Wii.
I guess I should try reinstalling NeoGamma R6... Any tips are welcomed :)
Sorry I can't really help but If u actually have a modchip in ur Wii it could be interfering with the read. Im interested in this cuz I just Softmodded my Wii(no modchip)a few days ago. If anyone has more info on this and possibly a solution please share it
Well, I got a Toshiba 640GB HDD (1393 something, it's in the compatibility list) and it works. I'm using USBLoaderCFG since USBLoaderGX would memdump on some occasions, and I'm very happy with it. All I need to figure out now is how to run it from a channel...
