Problem 1:
One of my Eurovox EX5000's will take the latest firmware fine (or at least it appears to). Goes through the usual procedure of updating and says it's 22nd of July firmware in system settings on the box.
Then when I go to scan (no matter if I scan every frequency or just the NTL Ireland 260-400'ish) I get all the channels listed no problem, but they're still labeled as "Scrambled Channel". I'm just outside of Dublin, technically Kildare, on NTL.

So far I've tried going down to some archived FW before updating it but it's made no difference. Each time I restored to factory defaults before changing firmware.

-

Problem 2:
My second box won't even let me update the firmware. It just hangs the updater application after it cycles between "Com 1, Com 3". After a long while it gives me the Boot mode error and when I select Com 1, it sits at "Waiting for the response of your receiver." indefinitely.

I've tried, without success, the updating while box is unplugged from mains and then turn it on method already.

I'm using the same cable (came with the EV) and the same laptop I always use for updating FW that's never had an issue before.

Problem 1 Resolved

Thanks to kopkidda for figuring this out!

Then exit out and go to sky sports and if you have uploaed the latest .cdf channel file onto the eurovox it will show immediately,if not you may have to wait for it too unscramble.

Problem 2 Resolved

Don't really know what changed but I flashed a 3rd box today and I was messing around with voxer (which recognised my boxes np) and then I had left the firmware update opened from a previous successful update, and after plugging in my problematic box that couldn't be recognised, I clicked Download on the FW update and it instantly worked.

*shrugs*

Are you on N** or Ch**us? Are both boxes genuine? Sorry but I am hitting the road soon.

Sorry edited probably as you were responding.

I'm on NTL and as far as I'm aware, they're genuine. I'll look up how to differentiate them now but all previous FW worked fine on them.

I bought them both at the same time from the very same place online as well.

OK I am heading off for a bit and will test it out myself to see if I can get a similar fault. It tested out fine earlier for me but will try it again.

No worries. I've a normal NTL subscription so I won't be completely lost without the EV for another little bit. :)

I've redone the FW update about 10 times now without any luck.

Also, the channels you listed are the ones that aren't on N2 yet because you could receive them before todays FW update.

You absolute legend kopkidda! :)

That's exactly what it was. So one of the boxes is now up and running perfectly!

Now, to resolve this other box which won't even allow me to get the FW onto it in the first place..! :)

Could have been a bad flash.Did you try unplugging it and see if
it reboots. When flashing always wait till it reboots before unplugging from pc.

I am only hoping your box is not a clone. This new software bricks (kills) clone boxes. Before you ask I do not know the difference between the 2 as I have not seen 1 but I do know there is quite a few about. There was so many that Eurovox changed their packaging
on their originals.

eh, just experienced the exact same problem as whistle76.

after updating with the new firmware and bringing to TV it would only stay in standby. brought it back to PC and now I can't get the power light. Bought it from b*bb*ecab**bo*es.com. I'll check other threads to suss out what a clone version looks like.

They both sound like clones.

For anyone else having problems with scanning in Dublin there is a new CDF for NT* Dublin in Eamos, it can be found here

This has the full 13 TPs and all channels sorted into FAVs, (if they do not suit they can easily be edited). This CDF will be compatible with all 1000SL, EX5000 and EX5100. The adult channels are in "others" and password for them is default 0000.

The emu going off seems to be after a factory reset, thanks KK for that :)

is there a way of telling if its a clone scouser?

I'd be tempted to open it to check nothing lose with cable but not sure if that would void the 1 yr warranty.

That box looks ok to me, it doesnt have the heat sink as far as I can tell. But your problem does sound like what happens to clones when they get bricked, it may need to be jtagged but im not sure how to do that and im not 100% certain eurvox's can be jtagged, im sure the good people on here will be able to tell you.

thanks kopkidda & thanks reb021. your advice is greatly appreciated.

re your picture reb021 - this is not a pic of an ex5000 box but I guess the point you are making is I should see something similar to the heatsink on my board.

would someone in the know be willing to build a thread on how to spot a EX5000 clone? I read somewhere that you can tell by the warranty sticker on the side/back of the unit and that genuine boxes have eurovox written whereas the clones have eurovox 5000 on them. I'm fairly confused as my sticker definitely has eurovox 5000 written but yet the interior looks fine.

Hiteck has a link in Eurovox Firmware & Flashing guide: http://www.4shared.com/file/110975743/55...d_out_here.html
When I downloaded the file it doesn't appear to be for the EX5000 - I think it might be for the older Max V boxes.
