Hey i recently softmodded my wii with the guide from these forums. and finally got a successful burn with verbatim dvd-r playing NTSC games.
i followed a youtube guide in burning games where he had me go through patching the iso with the IOSpatcher (to change the Iso's IOS to 249. and removing the update. I've done this process with all my games so far, not sure if it is needed though, but it has been working for my burns so i've just been doing it anyways.

Now i have a PAL game (super paper mario) and was wondering if i should still follow these steps. (changing the IOS, and using the same patcher to remove the update.) and will it work with my wii without problems. I've heard some possible stories about bricking with PAL games inside NTSC consoles so it startles me. I am using neogamma r6 and from what i read so far i can just choose "force NTSC"
Should i still go through the steps of changing the IOS and removing the update?
would it be worth it to install bootmii just incase?
Thanks

look for regionfrii. it changes the region codes of isos, like Pal to NTSC. force NTSC should work too

Regionfrii will not change the firmware update region.

Follow the same steps you have been doing. I would assume the update patcher is WiiBrickBlocker. So yes use WiiBrickBlocker to disable the update. Then set NeoGamma to FORCE NTSC.

You should also install Bootmii and backup your NAND.

Bootmii as boot2?
where does your NAND get saved to SD card or Wii? How much space does it require?

Install it to Boot2 if possible.

The NAND backup is saved to the SD Card.

The NAND backup should output a 528MB file. So make sure you have over that amount of space free.

After you backup your NAND save it to PC and I would recommend burning it to a CD or DVD for safe keeping.

The NAND is where everything is stored to (system files, gamesaves, VC WiiWare games etc. etc.).

Lets say your updating your system and the power goes out. After rebooting the system nothing comes up and you have a brick.

Or

Lets say you installed a WAD file or aplication and for some reason it didn't install right or it was of the wrong region and after rebooting your system was bricked.

If you have installed Bootmii as Boot2 and had a NAND backup it is as simple as booting into Bootmii and restoring the NAND backup that you previously made. Bringing your system back to life at the state the system was in when you made the backup.

Do you have the Homebrew Cahnnel?

On your PC make a folder called hackmii

Go HERE and download this file.

Now extract it and rename the installer.elf file to boot.elf and place it in the hackmii folder you created on your PC.

Now transfer the hackmii folder to the apps folder on your SD card.

Now launch the hackmii installer from the Homebrew Channel.

Then choose to install Bootmii.

it is pretty much that simple.

If Bottmii says that it can only install as an IOS then go ahead and install it anyway so you can at least make a NAND backup. But hopefully it will let you install it as Boot2 so you have the best brick protection.

this time when I select BootMii from the menu I can choose:

Install BootMii as boot2
Uninstall BootMii as boot 2

Install BootMii as IOS
Uninstall BootMii as IOS

Prepare a SD card

Did I/was I supposed to install as boot2 and IOS? Should I uninstall one of these?

This time I prepared a blank SD card got the same bin, bootmii, elf file along with notepad installer text doc with lots of stuff that makes no sense to me. I can post it if needed, but its rather long.
Lots of WARNING: ECC failure at page 141-191, then again page 320-447

Any advice
FYI: 4.0U, D2CKEY, and I followed the softmod guide

You only need to have it isntalled at boot2. IOS is incase Bootmii can not be installed at Boot2.

Thanks again. I figured it out, my game cube controller being plugged in was causing some problems. I backed up my NAND.

Does this mean I can brick my wii ANY WAY possible and reinstall all current settings and softmods as long as I have the bootmii folder on a SD card???

Would the NAND file go in the bootmii folder or the Root of the SD card?
