I want to install bootmii as boot2 but am unable too. I only have the ISO option. I understand I can still back up my NAND but if I was to brick the Wii I couldn't reboot to restore.
(4.0U softmod rev13a)

1) Why backup if you can?t reboot a bricked system?

2) Is there any other way of hack to install it as Boot2?

3) Is it safe to turn Wii24 on and play online, internet channel, updates ect..?

4) Is there anything else to look out for if I'm unable to boot2 and backup?

Thanks

1 & 2 - Mine installed as boot2, but I've heard that you can install it as an ios and backup your nand, then use preloader to boot to hbc and restore using bootmii that way.

3 - Yep it's safe to turn on wii24, Nintendo can't tell if you're hard/soft modded. Internet channel is fine. Updates are fine as long as they're from the same region disc as your console. As for firmware updates, I always wait it out to see what changes were made and if anybody is experiencing any problems before I update.

4 - A lot. Read the thread about avoiding bricks...

Honestly, I have no idea. Like I said, mine installed as boot2 so I didn't need it.

Do a search, I'm sure there are many other people who have asked about it and gotten answers.

Just go to the icon that has the gears on it. Then go to the icon that shows a green arrow pointing from Wii to SD Card.

You will need a GameCube controller to navigate the menus (The Power, Eject and Reset navigation option will not work when Bootmii is installed as an IOS).

Make sure you have over 528MB of space on the SD card. The NAND backup will be written to the root of the SD Card. After you make a backup of the NAND place it on your PC for safe keeping. I would also suggest burning a copy of it to a CD or DVD.

Sorry to be a div but how am I to do this? I've seen videos of how its done but am unable to get to the screen with the gears.
Holding reset before turning Wii on starts the preloader but how do I get to the bootmii screen that I need to get to?

You load it from the Homebrew Channel when installed as an IOS.
I think the processes is launch the Homebrew Channel. After it comes up press the HOME button on the Wiimote and the Launch Bootmii is in the list.

I've tried this. Load the HBC and press the home button. The only options are Back, About, Exit and something eles. Bootmii not being one of them

Are you sure you installed it as an ios? It should be in the exit menu of HBC...

yes,

Go back and run the hackmii installer again and from there install bootmii. It will tell you on screen if it can be installed as boot2. If it says no, then dont even try. Just install as IOS

UNless there is some reason we are unaware of that prevents bootmii being installed as IOS on certain systems I would say you missed a step the first time around and did not complete the originall bootmii install correctly.

Let us know if you try it again what happens.

Reinstalled bootmii as an ISO again and it defiantly said success (in green). Still NOT on the menu in homebrew though???

It has created a folder on the SD card named Bootmii. The folder contains 3 files, armboot.bin bootmii.ini and ppcboot.elf

Did i need to prepare the SD card before or after installing?

The only thing I can think of is maybe you don't have the latest updated version of Homebrew Channel.

Did you use the Hackmii installer to install the Homebrew Channel? If not uninstall the Homebrew Channel then use the Hackmii installer to reinstall the Homebrew Channel.

do you have to uninstall the Homebrew Channel before installing a new version? Has anyone tried installing the HBC when an older version is still installed?

Does it overwrite the first one, or does it just install separatly so you end up with two HBC channels? Or does it just screw up the HBC and cause it not to run?

Just into HBC and it will ask you to update it if you're on an old version (assuming you have an internet connection to it.)
