My xbox skips when playing audio only. Any Help?

When trying to play audio from an external drive or streaming it from my laptop my 360 constantly skips throughout the song. I have checked the files on the external drive and they play just fine on my laptop. My game audio doesn't skip at all, or movies. I have no idea of what could cause this all the sudden and its actually a pretty new system, its the resident evil edition. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

mabye the external drive is damaged or the songs cant be played by the xbox 360 or the usb port on the xbox 360 is damaged.

I thought it may have been the usb port but it also does it when i stream so it cant be that. I've never had any problems before at all it just kinda happened all the sudden.
