i've got a xbox 360 with a liteon drive in it. it is spoofed as a ms-28. what i want to do, is restore the liteon drive to its original liteon firmware and then flash an ixtreme 1.6 onto it (or spoof it as a benq). the point of this exercise is to get a feeling how spoofing works, since i already messed the liteon drive up (will not eject anymore) i can't do much more harm. i want to do it all with jungleflasher.

a few questions: do i need the ORIGINAL firmware for any of the drives that i want to spoof? what if the drive is already flashed with ixtreme (like my spoofed liteon drive, that has a ms28 ixtreme 1.6 on it). can't i just make a dump of the firmware (to get the dvd key), then load another firmware (in my case a liteon or benq fw, which is included in the firmware pack of jungleflasher) and insert the key i extracted from the former into the latter firmware? then my target firmware should have the dvd key from my source firmware?

so:
spoofed liteon drive (as ms28) back to original liteon drive

and

original liteon drive flash to ixtreme liteon OR spoof to benq drive

i've already got the liteon dvd key (extracted it with keyreader/read out with jungleflasher. i have key.bin etc. etc.). i don't have the original liteon firmware. the key I extracted is off course correct

You can't restore a Lite-ON to original firmware. Once a Lite-ON is flashed with iXtreme, it is a done deal. You can only flash iXtreme 1.6 back to it.

From the way it sounds, you XBOX 360 originally had a Samsung drive and then somebody replaced it with a Lite-ON.

Spoofing is easy. In Jungle Flasher:

Load original firmware/custom firmware into source.
Load original firmware/custom firmware into target.
Click spoof source to target.

oke. you might be correct, i bought it second hand.
another question: assuming that it originally had a samsung drive in it, why did the previous owner SPOOF a samsung firmware into the drive? wouldn't it be just enough to only write the correct dvd drive key into the new drive (in my case the liteon drive) and just flash the ixtreme 1.6 liteon fw into the liteondrive (that replaced the samsung drive) with the samsung dvd drive key?

same if it would have been a samsung drive and the replacement drive would have been a hitachi or benq, wouldn't it be enough to only insert the dvd drive key from the samsung drive into the hitachi/benq drive? or are the drives not only locked with dvd key to the xbox 360's motherboard but also by their make (so you always MUST spoof a different drive to the original drive that was in it)?

If the new drive is different from the original drive, and you only flash the DVDkey, then XBOX 360 will come up with an "E" error (E66 or something like that). You must fool the XBOX 360 and making it think that the drive connected to it, is the original drive it's motherboard was married to.

so does this also go for hitachi's ? so if you have a hitachi fw revision 46 drive that dies and you buy a hitachi fw rev. 78. then only swapping dvd keys will not work either? then also you have to spoof the new hitachi fw revision 47 with a fw revision 46?

Going from a 46 to a 47 you might be able to get away with, not for sure though. But definitely not a 47 to a 78. Sorry, I don't deal much with Hitachis. I've never used them as a drive replacement. I prefer BenQ as a drive replacement.

f.i., if i have a samsung ms28 drive that need replacement. and if i find a benq dvd drive that i want to replace it with, i need to spoof my ms28 fw into the 'newly' benq drive.

so, i then read out the original or iextreme firmware of the ms28 drive which will give my amongst others the correct dvd key. But is this the source or target firmware?

then i have the benq drive, to which i need to spoof the above data. what do i do with that? do i read out something? or can i just load the original or ixtreme firmware that is in the jungleflasher firmware pack (or maybe i don't need to load anything?)

or to put it differently, which one do i load with 'load source firmware' and what do i load with 'load target software'. in assume that after i loaded the right files, i press the 'spoof source to target'. does this create a new custom firmware that i need to flash into the (in my example) benq drive? i assume i need to write the fw using the benq flash method (since it still is a benq drive)?

If you purchase a BenQ drive from online you don't have to dump the firmware from it, as it might not have a key or it or a key you don't care about. By spoofing, all it does is make the XBOX 360 think a Samsung drive is connected when actually it is a BenQ. Samsung firmware won't be flashed to the BenQ, only BenQ firmware will be flashed. The reason you load the original firmware into JF's soruce is because JF needs to know what DVDkey needs to be used, and what the drive needs to be spoofed as.

ooooo... i think i got it.

so i just dump the samsung firmware (cfw or ofw) that has a valid key in it (= source). in target i just put an ixtreme 1.6 benq or ofw benq i get from the jungleflasher firmware pack. then i spoof source (samsung dump) to target (benq ixtreme or original firmware).

will this create a new file (a cfw) that i then have to flash to the benq manually (with jungleflasher) or will jungleflasher automatically flash it to the drive.

You can save the firmware if you like. Or, once you have clicked spoof source to target, go over to the MTKFlash tab and get the BenQ into vendor mode and write the firmware.
