I have a xbox 360 elite with a faulty benq drive.
I bought a identical drive of ebay. is it best to change the board over from original drive to new one or dump the firmware from original to new .
If i dump it what software will i require.

You can swap the PCB board as long as the firmware version is the same. You can't go from 62430C to 64930C or vice versa.

Thanks. Would it be safer to dump the firmware from old drive to new. If so what software would i require any suggestions.
cheers

Either way will work. But with dumping the firmware, you can always spoof that to a new drive so that is a plus. You can use Jungle Flasher to dump the firmware. You need a compatible chipset.

The SATA chipset needs to be compatible. nForce usually works, a lot of ICH don't. If the onboard isn't compatible, you'll need the VIA SATA card with the 6421 chipset.

One thing that has been missed, is what is wrong with the original DVD drive?
If it's the PCB then swapping it will obviously do no good, and in worse case scenario you won't even be able to get the DVD-key from it, in which case you're up the proverbial creek!
xbox 360 flashing "enthusiast".

You can still dump the drive from what you have described.
