Cannot get Preloader installed on 4.0u

When trying to install Preloader the screen goes black, and it looks as though there is some text at the top but it is mostly off screen. Any ideas of what this could be. Have I missed a step?

C'mon, I'm not a total noob, of course I pressed 1. After I press 1 the screen is black except for what looks like some white text at the top of the screen. Most of it is off screen so it is hard to read.

How am I supposed to know if your a newb or not. You are here asking for help so take the help you get.

Are you sure you have the proper hacks.ini file for 4.0 firmware and USA region?

Sorry, did not mean to sound like a jackass. I just figured it was common knowledge to press 1. Thanks for the advice though, I do appreciate any help. And your guides are an amazing help too, I'd be lost without you, Larry.

I'm almost certain I have the right hacks.ini. I even tried a couple different ones I found on various sites with no success. I think I may be getting the "failed to get root, fakesign fixed ios(36)" but its hard to tell as I cannot see the text at the top of the screen. I can see what looks like a g near the end of the sentence thats what makes me think this. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

*Edit* Am I safe to go ahead and run IOS Downgrader even if it is not that error. Are there any precautions I should take before running IOS Downgrader? Thanks
