Can a backup of a game, burned from an ISO, that is the same region as the Wii cause a region brick on a softmodded Wii if the disc update was installed? Or can this brick only be cause from out of region disc updates?
Someone posted on a thread of mine on a different site saying even if a copy of a game (game backup) and Wii are same region, a disc update can still cause a region brick on a softmodded Wii if the user were to install the disc update.
Would greatly appreciate if someone can answer this for me.
Thanks

That is false.

A disc that is the same region as your system will not cause a region brick.

But it could cause issues with a softmod.

So it would be best to WiiBrickBlock the update from the disc.

Or use an application like Preloader .29 to block system updates to the Wii system.

Thanks for the info.
Also, having checked a few games with Wii Update manager (WUM), some discs have firmware update: 3.1U_v3. Is that completely safe to keep on disc if running on 3.2U+ Wii's since it doesn't promt that an update is needed? Or is Brickblocking suggested?

You should be able to block the update using WUM.

But I would highly suggest using Preloader .29 which has hacks that you can set and 1 of those hacks will block game disc updates from being installed.

I thought keeping same region updates was safe but I'm new to modding.
So you are saying all game ISO's should be brick blocked?
So far the games that had Firmware update: 3.1U_v3 on disc played fine, but being new to Wii's, I'm unsure if a disc update will prompt for one or run in the background without user knowing. Can someone let me know if disc updates run automatically in the background, or are they prompted for the user to accept or decline the installation?
Will Brickblocked games work on updated Wii's? For example, if they work now on my 3.4U Wii and i update it to the latest firmware in the future, will they still work?

You will be prompt for an update.

But some game updates could screw up the softmod.

So you should disable the update or block them with Preloader.

But same region game updates will not semi-brick your system. Which that was your question.

Is disabling updates with WUM or brickblocking the same thing?

It does the same thing.
