usb loader gx wont recognize my drive

I have a WD My Book Essential 250gb external USB drive. I checked the compatibility chart and the ones that are working are the WD Passports but there is also a couple entries for just plain WD 250gb external HDD.

I used WBFS Manager 3.0 with the external USB drive hooked to my PC. I formatted it to WBFS or so WBFS Manager says so. I loaded 30 ISO onto it with WBFS Manager.

I take it to the Wii and I am trying to load it with the forwarder of USB Loader GX which is on my SD card and in the slot.

It never finds the drive. I pick IOS249 and it gives me 30 seconds. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting. I tried both USB ports. I tried IOS222 with no luck. I tried every which way and it nothing thru the 30 second retry.

Before I invest 100 bucks in another hard drive I want to be sure I didn't miss a step somewhere. I have cios38 rev 14 installed and I'm pretty sure I downgraded ios35 then back to ios7 or whatever the guide said.

Can anyone see anything I'm missing here?

Did you restart the wii before trying the other USB port?

I've read about some WDs having issues, thee are some on the compatibility chart too. That sucks if thats the case.

Maybe trying trading drives with family or friend that uses it for music or other backups.

I fixed my problem just now. I'm so happy I didn't have to shell out for a new hard drive.

I installed Wanikoko's cios38 rev 14 (I previously had rev13 installed).

I guess it added compatibility to the drive... go figure.

I am trying to get rid of optical disk out of my life completely... the wii was the only thing that still used them in this household.
