Is my Eurovox EX 5000 dead?

I just updated the firmware on my Eurovox PVR EX 5000 and everything seemed to go fine. I powered the box off and on after the update. After the first power on all LED's worked but the box locked up so turned it on/off again.....
Now, no led's work at all but I can hear the Hard Disk spinning when I turn on the box.
Is it dead? (That will be my 3rd dead EV)

By all acounts no i have read a lot of posts and all you need is a jtag.I ordered one from tailor made circuits on 01/08/09 waiting for it to arrive.Looks quite easy to fix hope that helps

sounds like a clone box, the firmware is a clone killer firmware, did you check the box for signs of it being a clone before flashing it?

I swapped the power supply with one of my old EV's and that didn't fix the problem.
I have two 5000 PVR's (and know of another) bought from the same place and flashing the other 2 worked fine so I dont think its a clone.
Waited this long for the fix and the feckin box breaks... argh!

Second box just went dead... so they could be clones after all. I've searched for ways to indentify a cloned EX 5000 but the only identifer I've been able to find is that clones have no reset button. Both mine have reset buttons. Can anyone point me to a source for identifying cloned ex 5000?

Yes, silver heatsink in both.

Whatever you say, say nothing when you talk about you know what for if you know who might hear you, you know what youll get. Youll be sent off to you know where for you would not know how long. Maybe I could search through the threads so you dont have to ??

Yes you can fix it with a jtag did my one today.It is one with a heat sink all ok now

if you have a clone thats been JTAGG, what firmware you gonna put on it in Ire? your back to square one, you load the latest fix for the box to a box in Ireland, you will brick it again and the box wont work without the fix, catch 22

The place I bought the boxes from say that they can fix my boxes. They say the only problem is that my boxes are missing some type of boot loader file and once this is fixed/rectified then they will work fine.
Sounds like fiction to me but will go through the motions with them.

if ure in ire Dazzer, it wont work mate. The firmware kills the bootloader,
If your in the UK, you can use older firmware and manually input the other things and it will work, but if in Ireland your goosed

I am in Dub - I used the lastest firmware on my 2 Euro PVr and they came up ok - only problem is, I am missing the Man Utd channel and some discovery ones- does anyone know how to get them back - I completed a full scan and also a fast scan, but no luck. strange though I have all channel on my Kyprtview 750 box - anyway I tried to upload software on friends PVr5000 and his box did exaclty the same as Dazzler - loaded successfully came on then froze and now no LEDS at all - Will Jtag work?? tks

answer above, you can JTAG, but what firmware you gonna use, none as the older firmware wont work and if you load the new one again, back to square one

Start power-scan at 290Mhz to 600Mhz you will pick up
12 T.P.'s.You then have to manually add T.P.150Mhz + manual scan.

in the same boat. is there no update for n2 that will fix the clone ex5000pvr?
