Ok I'm going nuts with this can't read disk error on my d2ckey modded console. The past half dozen new games play for a while then give me a disk error. No scratches on disks (new) burned 3 different times. Cleaned laser with Wii laser cleaner, used different brand media. most games run fine, just the newer games that I have burned giving me the error. I am burning with Nero at 4x Have they implemented some new protection? I have latest Wii update. What now.

Thanks Rich

was Verbatim one of the disc types you tried? If not try them and see if they work. If you have tried verbatims then,

are you sure it works fine for older games. At first read it sounds like your chip has a bad solder joint or is maybe touching something in the case and causeing the error. Make sure it truly works fine on older games by playing one for an extended period to ensure it doesnt also give the error. If it does, then that goes a long way towards saying the chip or it's connections could be the problem.

What system menu are you using? You might want to try upgrading to the latest version. Since you said only new games are troubling you then maybe it is cause you have an older FW. Not sure why they would play for awhile and then give the error but it wont hurt to upgrade if you havent already.

Could be you burner and PC are in bad shape and the last couple (new) games you made contained errors due to an overworked, fragmented, or about to go bad hard drive. Watch your burning software next time you make a game and make sure the buffer stays full during burning. You could also try not doing much else on your PC during the burning process to give it more computing power. Not sure what kind of system your using.

Have you considered just softmodded the console? If it is the chip that will surely correct your problem. The guide is very simple to follow and there is a companion guide that will allow you to load the backups from the disc channel to ensure you are using the softmod to load the backups and not the chip. I have a wii with a wiikey and i softmodded it to ensure i could use homebrew. It worked like a charm and a few of the programs that come with the softmod are pretty helpful. Bootmii protects the sytem and preloader has some nice hacks you can make use of. It was fun doing it and had benefits as well. the guides can be located on page one of this forum.

Yes Verbatum is the brand I am having trouble with. I have tried + and -. My kid has been playing Paper Mario for three hours now, and no disk error. That game was burned on Imation (spelling ?) I would prefer not to soft mod. What could be going on here. Since this and other older games are playing, to me that rules out the mod chip.
