RROD! Tried X-Clamp, Please Help.

I have been researching this everywhere, and cannot get mine fixed. Seems like I am just spinning my tires, and not moving... Here is my situation:
Oringinally got the E74 error 1 light. Did the xclamp fix, xbox booted up for 3 to 4 seconds and red ringed with the 2 lights. From what i understand that means it's overheating. I took out my screws cleaned the chips again and re-added the thermal paste. Attempted to turn it on but am just getting 3 solid lights. The fan turns on for half a second and then shuts off, and nothing heats up at all. I tried tighting and looseing the screws and got nothing. I am getting sooo frustrated that I am about ready to throw this thing in the trash and sell my games and be done... Can someone please point me in the right direction here?

Is this the first time an X-clamp repair is being done? The "repair" is more like an extension of life, it is not a 100% fix. You are just prolonging the console a few more months/weeks. Some are lucky and can get years out of it....
Too much or too little thermal paste can be bad. Gee, that's all I got...
sum1 already had stevedawg and stevedawg85 is longer than 10 chars :(

This is the first time I have done it. The xbox was all original. I would rather gets months and have a chance at years than to buy a new one to be honest. I have cleaned the chips as best as I can, and tried using very little and tried using more than enough. Nothing seems to be working...

Which Xclamp fix did you do? The one that just goes through the mobo or the one where you go through the bottom of the case?

I did the one that goes though the motherboard. I really didn't want to drill holes in my case, but if that is what it's going to take then I will try it.. Is one more effective than the other?

No, I am not waiting 10 weeks for Microsoft to fix their own mistake. If I can't fix it, then I am done.

If its still in warrenty the send it to M$, only takes about 3 weeks. Plus if you cant fix it your stuffed. If not try the xclamp fix where you go through your case, i have had more success with that one.

I have already tried the "x-clamp" fix with no luck. That is why i posted this forum was to see if anyone can help. I have already voided the warranty, so there is no point in my sending it in...

I've got repairs done in 7 business days. You should really let Microsoft fix the console. It is FREE, so I don't see why not, even if it does take awhile.

Well I did the fix by drilling holes in the motherboard it worked for 5 min, then red ringed again... with the E74 error.

Tighten the heck out of the screws so you nearly break/crack the chips with the heatsinks.
Heat it up with whatever you've got (I used a fan heater), don't let it get too hot obviously (it's touch and go but if you're at this point like I was then you'll probably want to chance it). Remember that heatguns get *very* hot.
Let it cool, take it apart, put it back together with the screws at 'mediumish' tension and see if it works.
The one I just fixed this way has been stuffed for months but the other night I dug it out and tried this and it's been working solid for the last 72 hrs.
Most would advise against this and I agree, it's a last ditch effort.

So if anyone is interested. I got it fixed. I did the xlamp fix and after putting screws threw motherboard I only put one nylon washer before I put heatsink and GPU on board. When i put the nylon washer, and then steel washer, it seemed to be sitting to high, and not all the screws were tightening. Happy it's working, just hope it stays working :)

Good news.
I found out myself that the xclamp through the case is alot better. Although the one that just goes through the motherboard does sometimes work.

Mine stopped working after 1 hour of gameplay. When I turned it back on, RROD. I am done messing with mine.
