Heyas, i need some answers on a few noob questions:
I have 3 xbox's, One has 1.6 ixtreme and the other two have 1.3 and 1.5, if I have an ISO file, here is what i think i do to create a playable copy of the game:
* run abgx360+gui over ISO file and disable all online features (this will create or verify the dvd file)
* if ixtreme firmware is less than 1.51 patch ISO file with ppf-o-matic
*burn dvd file using clonecd on slowest speed poss on verbatim DL DVD+R
This will create a game that can't be played on XBL.
first question is:
do i need a physical mod chip in my xbox to allow me to play a backup dvd disc? if i did have the physical mod chip could i use the above disc online?
Second question:
if I want to play online WITHOUT installing a mod chip what would the process be?
* upgrade the firmware to 1.6
* do all of the above except don't patch ISO
if so then how do I stop XBl seeing what firmware I have? and how is the ISO stealthed?
1. You say you have ixtreme 1.6, that is all the modifications you need to play all backups. I would update the other two xbox's to ixtreme 1.6 (1.51 if hitachi).
2. Upgrade to 1.6 and follow this tutorial to stealth patch your games.

This will pretty likely give you an unreadable coaster, slowest possible speed (selectable) with clonecd and Verbatim is 1x, which isn't supported by the disks. You would force the media to be burned that slow, which leaves a lot of errors. There are some toppics on the board where that led to coasters, mostly with Memorex media. If you have those Verbatims supporting speed up to 2.4x (old version, normally isn't produced anymore) select 2.4x, if you have those supporting up to 8x (newer version) select 4x or 8x, I had no problems burning at 8x, no coasters due to speed matters in 60 games (two coasters due to noob reason, didn't set layer break and burned the .iso instead of the .dvd file, one due to not sticking to clonecd and trying to burn with XBC, XBC froze half way through and the burn failed). You could also use imgburn, that's a total choice of taste. There is no real advantages in either imgburn or clonecd. I use clonecd, because I got used to it.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
Ok I got hold of a mates totally stock standard xbox 360 (HDMI 2008 model).
I downloaded a rip of ufc which already had a dvd file with the iso, but I ran through and followed the tutorials on this site for using ABX GUI and imgburn. I used the verbatim Dl dvd+r discs.
as the xbox is not patched and I dont know what firmware it has, after running it through ABX I also applied the v14-15.ppf patch to it. burned it at 2.4 and now when I put it in the xbox I get "to play this disc put it in an xbox 360"
D'oh.. could this be because the xbox is running something older than 1.4? or have I done something wrong?

You have to flash your drive to play backups, a stock drive does not have ixtreme on it. You should update your drives to ixtreme 1.6, then just use the tuts to stealth and burn a game. Do not patch them to play on older firmwares.

ah ok so what i have done would work if I flashed to 1.5 (not that i would of course.
I am googling it, but do you know if its possible to update the firmware without opening the xbox? this one I can't afford to brick and still has its sticker intact.

You have to open the xbox to flash it. If you're careful you can remove the sticker without destroying it. Just use a hair dryer and a stanley knife and peel the sticker away (google for a full method, i'm on my phone so i can't post links).
I've never patched a wave 3 game to play on older firmwares, but I think it would of worked on 1.5.
