Ok so my PS3 has been broken for a few months now, i did the usual procedure. Rang Sony told them my ps3 has ylod on me, told them yes it has had enough ventilation, no I don't smoke around it and no its never been moved, shaken or smacked....etc.
well..."that'll be £145 then please"
(O.O;;)!!

Now I saw the Continuous play thing, I thought about buying the continuous play thing, but then I thought 'No... this PS3 is uber l33t, it will never break, I paid £££ for it and its shiny.' I thought 'I paid this £££ for my TV, PC and washing machine and they've all stood against time'.
So I didn't buy it, of course then it got abused and they stopped offering the service.

So my dilemma, I want my ps3 back, so much so im willing to pay the £145 pound on top of the £400 I already paid for it.
But what else apart from a refurbished playstation do i get back?
a 90 day warranty....
3 months insurance on my £545 investment. In 91 days if my ps3 broke again I would have to pay another £145, and I have no doubt in my mind that it WILL break again. (being a 60GB and all), which will leave me £690 out of pocket.
I asked the Sony rep if they have an extended warranty, if they've replaced the continuous play system with a more solid warranty service.
He told me "No sir, here at Sony we have special bond with our customers that allows us to butt rape them repeatedly!"

I may over exaggerate but why have Sony not sorted this out, loyal customers are paying £££ for the console, not to mention the PSstore and the amount of games for it, for which a percentage of the profits are headed Sonys way.
£145 to replace your console, that's supposed to have a 10 year life cycle, and they give you a 90 day warranty.
How many more of my PS3s will break during that 10 years.
the obvious difference with the X360s warranty aside, Sony need to put something in place that will give new and existing customers a bit of value for money, and nothing says value for money more then longevity.

I think your confused... Sony Said they support the system for 10 years. just like they are still supporting the ps2.

Continuous play was a service Sony offered in the UK wherein you pay £5 a month and Sony would replace your console if it broke even if it was out of warranty (even if you opened the console) by courier within 2 days.
Of Course people abused the system by buying broken consoles of ebay, signing up for continuous play and ringing the next day for a replacement, which was why it was stopped.

That's my point, I still have my ps2 which still works after almost 9 years. I didn't mean the console has a 10 year operating expectancy, I meant that Sony are supporting it for 10 years and In that period how many more PS3s will break. Almost everyday on Afterdawn I see a new "help my ps3 YLOD" thread, and all these people will either have to risk fixing it themselves, paying £145 to get it fixed, or just having a shiny brick because Sony have no extended warranty service.

Yes, Hindsights a bitch, but they don't offer it now.

Sony know that PS3s are breaking and what is a bit odd is that there?s no alternative offered.

oh, i thought continuous play was a warranty from a store, i didnt know sony even offered the warranty.

i know it sucks but if you want to have Long term protection you have to get store warranty.

I think every PS3 owner has the right to complain about Sony, even if their console is still in working order. The PS3 is not what SOny promised it to be, they even made the newer console inferior to the initial release consoles. And especially here in the UK where they removed BC and the memory card slots but still hiked up the price compared to US prices!

The PS3 is good, but its also a bluder from Sony which has angered many fans.
