I've been reading a whole load of Wii threads on this forum, as my Wii is currently not modded in anyway, so excuse my lack of expertise.

It seems incredibly simple to softmod on the Wii, how easy is it to brick a Wii?

Also am I right in saying all bricks are currently fixable?

As long as you follow the guides to the letter you should be fine.

After or before softmoding you should try to install Bootmii to Boot2. This will let you recover from most all bricks (not all). It would be pretty hard to brick the system permanently when Bootmii is installed as Boot2.

If Bootmii can only be installed as an IOS then I would suggest installing Preloader .29 to the system. This isn't as good as Bootmii installed to Boot2 but it will recover most bricks and be better then Bootmii installed as an IOS.

I'm going to have to read up more to find out what each bit does. I'm a Xbox user myself but girlfriend is nagging me to softmod her Wii after scratching Mario Kart.

A good few hours is needed on WiiBrew me thinks.

Thanks for the reply.

First off, Larry, Great Guides. I have been doing alot of reading before my first mod (later today) and your guide looks very easy to follow. My question is:
If I can't load Bootmii as boot2 then should I even bother loading as an IOS or just install preloader .29?

Bootmii as an IOS can not restore the NAND but it can back it up. If the worst happens and you get a unrecoverable brick you at least have a NAND backup that could restore your system using a Hardware Programmer to re-flash the NAND chip itself (this is a last resort fix and can be hard to do but you could probably find someone with the knowledge to restore it using this method).

So yes I would recommend installing Bootmii as an IOS (if it can not be installed to Boot2) and make a backup of your NAND.

I would also use Preloader .29 for more protection.
