Hey Guys,
I am new to this forum but always give help on others when its needed. I am attempting to flash a hitachi 79 and just feel overwhelmed. I am good with CPU's but I am the mode B step and pressing eject when it says spinning disc. Well my xbox will not eject or it will and then freeze up any advice. Thanks so much

So is your eject button working at all? If it isn't working at all and you've already tried flashing it, you may have bricked it. This can happen to Hitachi drives.
What program are you using to flash the drive and what method to get it into mode B? You need to use Jungle Flasher in Windows.

What I have done. I may have the wrong port but I googled and my gateway GT5662 supposedly comes with the Nvidia sata chipset which should work. With the tower upright I have it plugged into the bottom one. I insert the slax 2.1 cd and then start PC then Xbox I let it get to disc spinning and hit eject, open eject then it begins to freeze up and if I look at my tv (to see what xbox says I see it stuck on opening or closing). I then removed the sata from pc and shut pc down. I restart and then plug in as windows is loading with xbox on and cant find it in my device manager. I dont think its bricked becasue when I shut xbox down it works again but my eject button didnt work from the very begining.

Okay, stop using the Slax CD and try Jungle Flasher. There is an option in there to get into mode B much more easily. It's automated.
Just leave the CD in the drive and leave the SATA cable hooked up.
Also, you will need v1.51 of iXtreme for Hitachi.

Jungle Flasher has a tutorial built in. Or go to http://www.jungleflasher.net or the tutorial linked in my signature.

Since I have Nvidia Sata I have to install Port IO? If so, does it matter where I have the sata cable hooked up inside my CPU? with the tower being upright I have it in the one closest to the bottom.
Thanks

Yeah, install PortIO and also Microsoft's .Net Framework if you don't have at least version 2.0.
The port shouldn't matter since you can select ports from within JF. As long as your computer is happy with it, it's fine.
And no problem about the help. It's nice to be helping somebody who is actually interested in helping themselves every once in a while, so thank you as well.

Hey,
Is port IO only for xp because I have vista? Also when I go under device manager I dont see my hitachi hard drive under devices. I see some type of driver installed in disk drives. WDC_WD50- a bunch of numbers and then says disk drive. Any idea what is going on is that correct? I thought it would say hitachi under cd/dvd drives. Maybe I have sata in wrong port

I know a lot of peep get upset if you post without researching but trust I have been and thank yall once again.

PortIO is for WinXP and Vista 32-bit only. If the auto-install did not work on Vista, you will have to manually install it. Click start and in the search type:
hdwwiz
You will need to tell Windows you want to find the driver yourself manually (Have Disk). In the JF folder is the "manual" folder for PortIO. Navigate to it and select the INF, finish installing and re-boot.

Hey Guys,
I will try to make this my last post and once again thank you. I am just worried I will brick it. So I clicked send Mode B and it came back done. But I selected Win API b/c I couldnt select the Port option. Then under the drive bar it has my CPU Optiarc RW drive selected not the H:// drive in the photo. I do have another drive I can manually select with the drop down bar. Its J://NGD-and some numbers. I guess my concern is the sata port is not working with my CPU and not registering the xbox. Am I ok to proceed with Winapi and not Port IO since I cannot select that?

Let me know if you think that is fine.
Its an Nvidia chipset.
I'm sure the connections are fine. I'd like to see the JF log after you have sent Mode B and pressed the refresh button a couple of times.

Photo link isn't working, but just take your time.
Even if you brick it, it's not the end of the world. As long as you get the drive key off of it, you can replace the drive with another for as low as $30.
If that J drive appeared out of nowhere and you've never seen it before, chances are it is your Xbox's DVD drive. So just query it in JF and it will tell you if it is or not.

I dont want to keep bothering yall. I may have to give up or buy a sata card although the one I have should work. For some dumb reason after I first installed port 32 and sent to mode B I switched the gray Circle that was checked that said Port I/O to winapi. Since then I have not been able to get back to Port I/O and even when I refresh it the drive does not show up. Its strange though because it will send it to mode B and recognizs the drive in the begining even though I have yet to ever see it under system devices on my CPU. Man this stinks but I am very grateful for all the help you gave.

It's okay to use WinAPI in JF. I wouldn't worry about it.
