Has anyone tried to replace the diode instead of the lens? If so how hard was it and where did you get the diode?

You know I started to but there was a lot of info that I was reading that was from 2k8 and I don't have that much time to read everything. I am sure that if some has done it they wouldn't mind saying Yea I've done it and this is where I got it from.
