as i try and instal the preloader in larry's guide i get a ret -1017 and it is not back at the 3.2 menu any ideas how i can get this to work??

Did you downgrade to 3.2 then upgrade back to 4.1 and run IOS Downgrader and IOS60Patched.wad before trying to install preloader?

i tried to i loaded the preloader app in home brew and was folowing the guide then when it got doen with the downgrade that is where i got the problem does anyone maybe have a diffrent guide i can use

The guide is perfectly fine if you follow it properly.

So start at step 1 and follow the guide to the letter.

Are you using a SDHC memory card?

Preloader has issues with SDHC cards. Use a non-HC SD card.
