If I flash my TS-H943 with the old xtreme0800 firmware and burn my games with this method, will it work?

Or do I need the iXtreme firmware?

I could be wrong, but doesn't the new 1.6 iXtreme do what the old 0800 version did anyway (rip games), so what's the point?

I chose the the 0800 because I am familiar with how to flash it - as long as it can play the game I am happy.

You won't be able to play any new games on the 0800, only on iXtreme 1.51 or up.

The flashing process is the same.

Yep.

You might want to try Jungle Flasher for Windows, though. It's a lot easier to use.

But hey, whatever you are comfortable with.
