Well what are you trying to accomplish with getting a connect kit? Like you want to connect your 360 to your Laptop so that you can flash the firmware?

If you are trying to flash your drive, then try this.

You don't have to flash that often. Like once or twice a year.

I've had mine modded for over a year and only upgraded the firmware once.

Get that PCMCIA card with the SATA ports on it and use that. Or there may be some other type of SATA-->USB option.

If you have an older Lite-On drive (find the 'what drive do I have?' tutorial to find out), you will need a probe to read the DVD key, which costs either $20-$30 or $5, depending on if you buy it or build it. You will also need a Serial-->USB adapter for this if you do have that drive. Except for the Lite-On 74850, no other drives require a probe.

Besides that, you don't really need anything else.

Yeah. Waste of money. They promote it by saying "In this day of constant updates, you'll never have to open your case again". Updates don't come frequently enough to warrant a Blaster.

Yes, you could use that to hook your DVD drive up to your computer through USB.

If you have the most common lite-on drive, though, you still need a probe to grab the drive key. The problem is that these probes connect via a serial connection (DB9, looks like VGA), which I am 99.9% sure your laptop won't have. So in that case you would need a serial (DB9) to USB connector to attach the probe to.

You need to verify your drive type before we get into any more specifics, though. No need to worry about probes and adapters and such if you don't have a lite-on at all.

(I see what you are saying but he can always get the connectivity kit)

My probe is connect via USB. No adapter was needed.

Depends on what comes with the elite, how old it is and in what shape it is. If the 120 GB harddrive is included and the system is relatively new (around half a year old maximum) and if the old owner sends the drive key with it (so you don't have to get the key from the drive again when a new version of iXtreme is released and you want to flash the console with it), I would say the deal is not that bad.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Well, if you want to use a regular DVD burner to rip games, then yes you will have to take it apart in order to rip the games.

There are special firmwares you can use to rip games on certain DVD drives as well, so you don't have to take anything apart after initial investment. One type is called Kreon. I also believe that the latest 1.6 firmware allowed certain types of 360 drives to rip discs. Can anyone verify this?

When you do rip a game, run it through ABGX360 on level 0 autofix and it will verify that your iso is legit.

Or, not that I would condone such a thing of course, you can just download the games using torrents/USENET/etc. ABGX.net is the main lists the main database for approved releases.

Not sure about the model names to tell you the truth. But yes, each system comes with a different drive. If you get a new system it will probably come with a Lite-On.
