My TV is pretty old and, being standard definition, the text for many games appears tiny and the contrast is pretty bad so it's really limiting what I can play. Since I can't afford an HDTV, I want to connect the system to my computer screen.
Now, I've looked this up a bit online, but honestly I don't know much about electronics. I know I need an adaptor of some sort, but most of what I've read talks about HDMI connections. As far as I know, my screen is not HD and it's also not widescreen. I'm guessing something like this is what I need. However, I'd prefer to buy from a physical store, not online, as I'd like to have it before the end of the summer so I'll actually have time to use it ... but if there is a good online store, that's in North America so the shipping doesn't take too long, I'll consider it. Also, I'm only willing to spend up to $60 for it, because it's ridiculous to pay huge amounts of money for a simple adaptor.
I'd appreciate some suggestions as to which stores I could find something like this in (I'm in Canada btw but if you suggest US stores, that's okay too). Also, what's this type of adaptor called? And are there other ways I could get this to work that may be less costly? Someone mentioned using a TV card in the computer but I couldn't follow the explanation for that.
I just set up my laptop to accept a PS2 or 3 using a Pinnacleusb tv tuner. It wasn't hard and I now get tv as well. Cost: $100 I had to use the A/V input adapter but it wasn't hard I just used the wizard.
It looks like the 2:1 switch box could be just the ticket for your needs. Do a Google search for similar products. Try Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com. there are multiple reliable online stores that you can order from in North America. I only buy from the physical store if I want instant satisfaction. Often you can save money by going online.
You could get a hdmi to dvi cord, and then get a dvi to vga adapter if necessary. I know hdmi can do SD but I'm not sure if it can do a 4:3aspect ratio.
