Bandspeed sues Sony, Nintendo and Apple in patent dispute

article published on 13 August, 2009

The creators of the PlayStaion 3 (PS3) and Wii consoles, and the iPhone, have been handed yet another patent dispute complaint, this time from a company called Bandspeed. The company filed a lawsuit in the Western District Court of Texas last week. What's real sad is that in this country "Sue" used to be a name...now it's a verb.

So if I have an idea one day, all I have to do is have a patent taken out on said idea. Then wait till some big company can actually use this "idea" to make money. Then sue?

Maybe I didn't read it right but I are these guys suing these 3 companies because of online abilities?

Well, why aren't they suing phone companies or even Microsoft for the 360?

I've most likely read this wrong though.

No! ideas can't be patented, there's a bit more involved than that..lol..if memory serves you have to have a working model & list cetain or all aspects for the patent application or some sort of blue print.

@kikzm33z, its more about methods of benchmarking wireless channels and selecting/using them based on that, so it deals with the technical part of establishing wireless communication used by the devices.

which the second patent, issued on August 4, 2009

The second patent they mention was issued a little over a week ago. I don't see how that patent could possibly have any validity in a case against a product that has been out for years now.

The fact they would even mention the second patent in their case just makes this whole thing scream "hey I'm a patent troll".

Is it near the silly season again. I think when it comes to somethings like frequency etc something should just remain universal and should be left alone stop trying to find the quick buck.
This is just wasting more money than making it.
