i just bought a wd 250gb passport external usb drive, i have my current games in my computer and want to put them on it and delete them out of the computer. first off it wont let me format the drive and then when i finally get one game on there and try to put another it tells me that there is not enough room(the only thing on the drive is the stuff it came with, the setup, etc. and the one game i added) It also says that if i were to make changes such as delete that game out of my computer that it would delete it off the hard drive the next time it syncs with the computer. so did i buy the wrong thing or am i doing something wrong. all i wanted was a big storage device to save my games on and play them via usb drive on the wii and when i get a new game i want to put it on the drive too, but i dont want them cramping my computer memory. thanks

Did you partition it for use as a primary drive? Did you format it to FAT32 before formating it to WBFS format?

What program and version are you using to transfer the games from your PC to your HDD?

The drive needs to be formatted in FAT32 for it to work with the wii. Windows wont let you format a drive in fat32 if its over 32gb. Download FAT32FORMAT and format your drive. Your getting the storage errors cause usb loader cannot read ntfs partitions correctly.

If there is an option when formating the drive for FAT32 then your operating system supports it.

I have a 500GB drive and used both Vista and XP as an operating system which gave me FAT32 as an option.

Windows7 only had exFAT as an option and I had to use FAT32FORMAT to format it.

So I would recommend seeing if FAT32 is an option. Also make sure you have made an active primary partition on the USB device.

i am using vista but it only gave the option of exfat or ntfs, and i downloaded the fat32format but it says "access denied as you do not have sufficient priveledges. you have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode." i am using the black command screen when doing this. can you tell me what this means for me to do. thanks

Try to right click on the fat32format file then go to properties.

When the properties dialog box comes up click on the compatibility tab.

Down toward the bottom it should say privileged level. Tick the box for Run this program as an administrator then click Apply and close out the properties box.

Now go back and run it from the CMD prompt again.

ok thats weird i brought it up through computer option to see what format it is in and clicked on it and it said to use it i would need to format it. so i just went to the wbfs manager and clicked format drive and it formatted to wbfs and is currently adding my games with extreme ease. i just hope that later when i go to put more games on it, that it dont say i need to format it to use it, because then i would lose my games i guess. thanks for all the help. this site is extremely helpful.

I used Partition Magic to format mine FAT32, of course it's not free software.
