Lite-On Extraction with Cell Phone Data Cable

Okay, I saw here that I could use a cell phone data cable to do the extraction of a Lite-On. However, I haven't seen anything on this site about that. I saw that you could build your own, but this seems like it would be simpler to do for someone like me who is not as technically versed. Does this actually work? I would have expected to see something here had it actually been viable. If it does, is this a good choice for the cable to use? If it isn't what is the cheapest effective alternative? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that would work. That diagram is exactly the same as the diagram for the home-made probe, minus USB.
