I just got one of the new Xbox 360's manufactured june 2009 with the 8385c liteon drive after powering it up it came with a new intial setup screen similar to the setup screens you would run with the new dashboard after popping in a game it asked me to update and said i would need 128 mg of memory blah blah..... i pressed continue without a memory card or harddrive attached it proceeded to update the dashboard and after that was complete it let me creat my own profile and avatar again without any external source of memory. does this mean that theas things finally come with some usable internal memory and if so i wonder how much

Yep. It's either 256 or 512mb.

If you go to Setting then Memory in your dashboard, you will be able to see what size is built in.
