I have E73 - Fix or force E74 / RROD?

Bought an E73 (1021 error code) on craigslist for $50 bux...

The usual x clamp fix should work for this right?
Another Q I have, is can I force an E74 / RROD error? It is under the 3 year warranty and if I could get one of these, I can fix have it "fixed" for free.

E73 is a general hardware failure, x clamp most likely will not work. You're better of either inducing the 3 rrod. Or just send it in to ms and attach a note to the xbox saying that it switches between e73 and 3 rrod (i've done that twice now and it's worked both times).

Hmmm, I may go that route. I can call em and just play dumb. I'd hate to do the online form and attach a note just to have them send it back.
If it doesn't work, what about the X clamp fix, will that possibly work?

And what's this I hear about stopping the fans until it overheats... Sounds like a ghetto towel trick, but ppl also report it'll work.....

Any opinions/thoughts about unplugging the fans and forcing it to overheat? How long would this temp "fix" last?

what's the best way of inducing a rrod / e74. Anyone else have luck tellin M$ the error switches off between the two?

I always say it has the 3 RROD . alot can happen via ups delivery.... even if its something else , i always say 3rrod or e74 to get a new box. worked for over 20 of em , 2 on the way

When yall tell M$ is has RROD, do yall call over the phone and talk to a live person or just fill out the form online and attach a note :P lol....

i do both. Heres my little setup.


I buy broken xboxes from various places. MAke sure they are under the 3 year umbrella. I try to register it online , if it allready is , I call in with a VERY heavy accented voice ( India does not want to try and understand you) . 99% of the time , they will register the console under your name. Then go online and submit a trouble ticket. I always put 3 rrod or e74 no matter what. No further questions or any other problems. 2 weeks later . poof new box . I have sent boxes without seals , without x clamps and even with the screws and washers still in the board. Hell....I got a console back with a burned game left in. No joke. I will attach an image.
