I have seen a lot of people say the external fan packs cause more problems than they solve, just wanting a few peoples opinions. I had an xbox with an e74 error, I repaired it, but after its been playing for a few hours the screen goes green, if I turn it off and let it cool it works fine, if I don't it will rrod (single ring) again.
The air flow plastic thing is missing from the case and someone tried to make one from an icecream container (removed that), what I think is it just needs more cold air in there and was going to buy a fan pack. Its only 20$ so i don't really care if it works or not, but just wondering what peoples opinions are? I have done a few repairs and been 100% successful, but I would like to do some kind of mod to stop it happening again if I want to re-sell the consoles. the external fan packs are the easiest.

I like the whisper fans. They are great. I've seen installed XCM fans and I'm sure they do a good job. I've always just replaced the stock fan and be done with it.

yeah the stock fans even in the hdmi model that I have are really p1ss poor. do you think the whisper fans will give enough extra cooling in my situation though? its burning up in a couple of hours.

The whipser fans will definitely help out. If you don't care about your warranty you can cut out the wire mesh on the chassis as it restricks airflow. If that isn't enough, you could try the other internal fans.

Thanks, the warranty has long gone anyway. Not keen on cutting through the case though. The reason why I asked is I saw someone say the external snap on fans don't reach the GPU to make any difference in heat.
i would love to hear from someone who had an overheating problem and what they did to resolve it.

i'd suggest the whisper max fans and buying the missing shroud. its there for a reason and im guessing its gotta be less than 10 bucks.

Yeah for sure pick up an extra fan tunnel, you can get them stock, clear, lighted, or chrome really it's up to you. I would vote for the whisper max fans as well, they run from the fan power connector and then if you press the button they switch to 12v.
I tested with a xenon board with the first style gpu heatsink and the temps were about 122F at the dash idle. The exhaust temps dropped to 107F after a few mins at 12v. That's a hell of a big difference for about $30.

If you're warranty is gone then by a talismoon whisper max. I have an external intercooler and they're rubbish. They claim to be quiet but it sounds like there is a vacuum cleaner plugged into the back. After a month there was this high pitched screeching in my xbox when i had the intercooler on, i took it off and it stopped, but powerwave was too cheap to give me a refund.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY EXTERNAL INTERCOOLERS FROM PULSE PERIPHERALS (POWERWAVE).
I had one of the original intercoolers and when I had it plugged in I would get 4 red rings at the exact same spot in call of duty 3 (the game I was playing at the time) and when I took out the intercooler it played just fine. I now have the whisper fans and I can't honestly say I notice a difference in the noise levels but there is some wicked acoustics where my xbox is which probably doesnt help any.

I think your right in that the fan shroud must make a huge difference. I really want a whisper max, over here in new zealand cheapest whisper max I can get is $45 and cheapest shroud is $20. more than what the console cost me so I just wanted to do a bit of research first to ensure it actually will work!
