I know that this has probaly been answered before, but I can't seem to find a solid answer about it that I really "trust". I have been coming here for a couple of years now and you guys have never done me wrong.

Here goes...

So I bought a 360 from ebay. It's an arcade version, I have yet to get it. I am looking at having it modded. My question is this:

If I was to purchase a DVD Drive for the 360 that is already flashed, will it be as simple as me just swapping it out with the drive that is already in my box? Or is it more complicated than that?

I guess my main hangup is referring to the original xbox with the motherboard/hard drive Eprom file. Does the 360 have something similar between the DVD drive and the motherboard? I have heard from some people that it does, and from others that it doesn't.

BTW, this paticular 360 has had the X Clamp replacement modification done on it. Will this be an issue with the DVD mod?

Also, this 360 will end up being a backup in January when I buy and elite. So can I eventually swap the modded DVD drive to the new 360 when I get it?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer. I greatly appreciate it.

So what exactly do I have to do? And how complicated will it be?

what you will need to do is use your search bar to find the jungleflasher guide, and read it. then figure out which drive you have, and reread that section, then follow the guide.

Looks like I am basically looking at running a flash on my DVD Drive anyhow. I am sure this 360 will have the dreaded Lite-On Drive in it. I think I would be better off paying someone else to do it for me who knows how to do it. Thanks again for the quick replies. It is much appreciated. I'll read over that jungleflasher tutorial some more, but I am sure I won't be "tech savy" enough to do it on my own.

depends on how old the console is for the lite-on. odds are it wont be a lite-on if the xclamp has been done to it as the lite-ons usually dont get RROD or anything. so it will be something easy to flash.

Alright. I will wait until I get the console and then post back on what kind of drive it is. Maybe I could flash it myself after all if it doesn't seem too difficult to do. Thanks again for the help.

honestly, the drives are all fairly easy to flash. You just need to commit maybe 2 hours your first time, but if you follow the steps, it has everything. And we're here to help also.

Tell me about it.

The damn thing is, they 1st time it RROD'd they sent me a new box with a lite-on in it too. Then that box RROD'd after about 4 months and now I have this lite-on.

It has the whisper fans in it so hopefully that helps keep it alive longer but when I was installing the fans I put in the white pin backwards for the nitro switch and it melted the wire in about 1/2 a second and started smoking/sparking.

So I used the default wire with the whisper fan and I am now nitro switchless :(

Alright, so I got the 360 today.

I have determined that the DVD drive is a Hitachi.

So exactly how difficult would it be to flash this drive on my own?

It's very easy, might I suggest logging into xbins and grabbing the

360 Modification USB Drive v1.6 Revision 3.

Basically you hook your xbox dvd rom to your pc, and use a usb stick to boot with that program, tell it which port your drive is on and it does the rest for you. I have tried it many times all successes.

Are you serious? That is all it takes? Seems like there should be a bit more to it than just that. Especially with all the stuff I have read over the past few months about flashing. I have been reading like crazy, and I want to make 100% sure that I do this right and don't mess something up.

Does anyone out there have a second opinion, or can back up this above theory? In the meantime, I will google that above method and see what I can learn about it.

Either way, thanks for the tip and if your idea works, then that would be freaking SWEET!

There is only ONE problem... I don't see anything about Hitachi support in that list. Any suggestions?

The reason no one is answering is because all your questions have been asked over and over. I would suggest you go with jungleflasher. It is the easiest way to flash out there period.

So go HERE read and follow the guide and you will be fine.

And remember if you have a question there is a 99% chance its already asked so just use the search bar a little ways up on the page it works wonders.

I already know about the jungleflasher. My problem is this:

I have found that I have a version 46 of the Hitachi drive inside my 360.

In the tutorial that I was previously linked to, it talks about going into ModeB for the other Hitachi drives. It has a link to a video tutorial for flashing the 46/47/59 drives. However, the link to the video is broken.

So I am stuck wondering about the whole "ModeB" thing. Do I have to get my drive into ModeB as well? Do I need to just follow along with the tutorial for getting the drive into ModeB? Is there another link to the video that was referenced in the textbook tutorial that I downloaded?

Thanks again for the help.

Maybe you should hop on Craigslist and see if anyone near you flashes Box's for a small fee...

JF makes mode B trivial. You press the "mode B" button and the drive goes into mode B. It really isn't a big deal like it used to be in some of the old guides you've been reading. There is a lot of really outdated information out there. Searching the forums is a good idea, but always keep that in mind.
